    Re: Americana

After more than a decade without a large format camera, I found a Graflex Crown Graphic and this is one of the first images I made with it. The lens is the typical Wollensak Optar 135mm f/4.7. 100th...

  8. Re: Metal vs Wood cameras - advantages/disadvantages

One factor not mentioned above is what sort of crowd you will draw. In my experience I would frequently have people come up and ask about my wooden Zone VI; usually along the lines of how old it...
  9. Re: Thoughts About Linhof 4x5 Technikardan 45s ?

I used a TK45S for about twelve years. It was a wonderfully solid camera with excellent portability. I was able to travel lightly and get to places other 4x5 cameras would be too bulky.

    I...
  10. Re: Best way to repair small light leak in bellows?

I had decades of success using this on a medium format bellows. Yes, a long cure time is the secret.

  12. Re: Possible major problem with my Epson 3800 printer

As Bruce said, this may not be a nozzle issue but color management. Are you using Epson's Advanced B&W printing? If so, make certain all color management is turned off at either PS or LR. Next, make...
  13. Re: How do I transfer programs and files to new computer?

    Re: Scan Velvia with silverfast

I have scanned Velvia 4x5's and 35mm with my venerable Epson 4850 and Silverfast. I never had problems with color matching, though I recalibrate the scanner whenever I have a critical scan. My...
  15. Re: help needed editing sky separately from the ground

Nice job on the LR edit. Another quick technique is the graduated filter in LR is ideal for this sort of thing. It is also available in PS within the Camera Raw filter.

Re: Whats the verdict on Adobe CC?

Agree 100%. I have the bargain version with Lightroom and Photoshop. The wife has the full-blown version as she uses InDesign and Illustrator in addition to PS. IMO, both subscriptions are bargains.

Another vote here for the Cokin. My Cokin Pola-Red and Pla-Yellow are my most used filters for B&W.
  33. Re: Lee vs. Singh-Ray graduated neutral density filters

I have Singh-Ray, Lee and a few Hi-Tech filters. The Singh-Ray is the most is the best, IMO, for having neutral effects of color.
  34. Re: Do you work directly from your pack, or from a ground tarp?

While I do not do portraiture, I did see noticiable improvements with subtle shadow details in my archtectural work. Presoaking is the only way to go IMO.

  39. Re: Any real advantage to pre-soaking HP5 to remove the anti-halation layer

As Robert says, pre-soaking Tri-X (and TMax) makes a huge difference. While I have not shot HP5 if or when I do, I will presoak.
