I just hide under the hood.
I manage to get tack sharp images with my Ronar every time using a five buck magnifyer.
They're always "cleaning marks" rather than regular scratches. As if the previous owner took such zealous care of the lens he actually left some marks. But rest assured they're "good" marks. Marks of...
I had crud in the stands making rise/fall super hard on my 4x5. Took a file. White goo that could be old lube or grease. Maybe not the same thing though.
I extended the centre column all the way today. No problem.
Please ignore my ignorant advice; people swear by this old camera model. I know what *that's* like! Get one and love it. :)
Amazing picture, Vaughn.
Those sizes sound pretty reasonable for files of that size but as someone mentioned it's a good idea to make sure you use TIFF compression. The reason they seem so large in comparison to digital is...
I am by no means an expert as I'm quite new to the field but I have to ask. Are you just looking to get into large format, maybe the graphlex way, or is this the very camera you really want? It...

I really can't see a difference. Not saying it ain't there but can't see it. Wonder what it would be on f64. I tested all my m43-glass I while back and it was like a knee sort of. Sharper, sharper,...
So I tried this weekend to combine the two methods as described here. I stopped down to 22 and added a few degrees of tilt and a few near-far focus/tilt-iterations. The tree line on the horizon seems...
Thanks for all the answers to my question. And thanks Bernice for showing beautiful work illustrating it. Did I get any wiser?
The way I read all the answers is as follows. Stopping down and...
Yeah, Jerry was the other brother who invented shoes made of cheese. His work is largely forgotten today.
Open wide and slice it thin like all the cool kidz on the internet! ;-)
I used mine for the first time only yesterday. Four sheets and no problems related to the mod54. I loaded it quickly with little practise in the small size changing bag with the tank in there. This...
What's the difference between the old and new version of the mod54?
@cor: Thanks. Good to get some confirmation. Was wondering if I did sonething wrong.
@dakotah: Yeah. I do use movements for perspective and cross/rise for composition. It's totally awesome.
I pretty much just started out with LF but now that I've shot a couple of sheets I begin to wonder on movements, specifically Scheimpflug tilting. I'm trying to learn a bit how to do it and while I...
Wow, vitality, that is pretty cool. How did you find it so empty? It's usually shock full of tourists.
True. But I'm just quite happy is got a decent exposure and focus. Next time I'm going to try to improve composition as well.
Yes my camera has movements. Unfortunately they are of the simple kind that only works when actually taking the photograph and not two days later.
Katarina Church on Södermalm in Stockholm. Also my first large format photo (apart from an out of focus test shot of a wall). Just got it back and scanned it. Wow. That was pretty much like sticking...
If you get images that are upside down you have one last chance when scanning or printing to get it right again.
Because the image is upside down on the ground glass the dark slide needs to be put the opposite way to compensate for this.
That's one beautiful rail.
Cool. Thanks.
No. They're glued like the top image above.
On my revolving Sinar Norma back there's this mysterious extruding knob with threading inside. What am I supposed to fasten here?

Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Both my stands are stamped M63. They have both nylon inserts on the rail gear and locking levers on the focus knobs. So it's built in 1963 in between transitions I...
I'm on the tetenol and off the wagon.
You're pointing to one of the things that really intrigues me with large format photography. It's so close to the simple physical process of light through a lens and onto a sensitive surface. Because...
Thanks for the replies. Right seems more obvious when I think about it. The MF cameras I've used do work that way.
My Norma has a rotating, or rather detachable back that can be oriented in different ways. This means I can have the DDS slide in under the ground glass from either left or right depending on how I...
I'm new here and new to LF photography in general so hi everyone. Just got an old Sinar Norma and assembled it. It's a beautiful piece of engineering. Does anyone know if it's possible to date these...
