Yeah, I tried Ed's. In fact, his business is fairly close to the house where I stay while I'm working in Calgary. All the C41 sheets he processed for me had 'splotches' on them.
In one case, I...
Vistek defintiely doesn't run a C41 dip and dunk. Thanks, Eric
I think I checked with Nova - and no go - but I'll double-check (they are just down the street from where I work after all).
Well, I see that Vistek has the Phase One P45 on sale - it's only $36K...
Thanks H.D.C. - I'll give the Vancouver guys a go.
Tim - Yes, Carousel is still doing E6 (as is ABL in Calgary). I'm not sure when Carousel quit doing C41 - I found out yesterday :). I've been...
Well, I'm feeling abandoned. I can't seem to find anyone to process 4X5 colour negatives for me in Alberta. Carousel (in Edmonton) and ABL Imaging (Calgary) have both stopped doing 4X5 colour...
I've had a lot of problems with Ultrasmooth flaking. I think this is probably because I live in a climate with very low humidity - which I think this paper doesn't like.
I've had my Ebony 45SU, an Ebony version, out in -30C to -40C temperatures without incident or difficulties - controls worked fine and the bellows didn't get stiff. I have more trouble with tripod...
Silverfast Ai, Epson 4870, 4x5, Fuji NPS. I also shoot Fuji Astia and get very good results (within the limitations of the 4870) scanning this combination (I use the Silverfast calibration option). ...
Kirk,
Do you mind sharing your workflow for scanning Fuji negatives using Silverfast?
Thanks,
Eric
Chris,
I shoot Astia when the scene allows it and NPS - now Pro 160s - otherwise. It's a very effective combination. But getting the colour 'just right' with scanned colour negatives is more...
The light in these kinds of conditions is very flat so I think you'd find the contrast range would have been easily captured on transparency film. For transparencies I shoot Astia and in snowy...
I also think that Photoshop is a remarkably good piece of software - though the learning curve is not trivial and never-ending. I futz endlessly with my prints, so I can't imagine using any tool...
I'm perfectly happy with the combination of Astia 100F and NPS. I shoot Astia when the contrast range allows and NPS otherwise. I use both in Quickloads.
Thank-you Jim. A simple and succint explanation. Better Light would do well to post a simple explanation of scan times and what to expect on their website.
I'll watch for your 'diary' on...
There must be a simple formula for determing the scan time - I'd like to know what that is so I can determine for myself if the scan times are reasonable for what I want to do. The exposure value...
I was through Banff and Jasper recently: water levels seem normal, air quality was very good (clear) and there were no issues at all with the roads we travelled. Lots of people of course as it is...
We are fortunate to have a wide range of excellent output options today. Most of them offer excellent quality and the choice of which is 'better' is a mostly a matter of preference. As such,...
"the look you see in Outdoor Photographer of landscapes is a direct function of using chrome film"
I suppose WCI's 'position' is ok IF you actually WANT the look of OP.
New(ish) to LF and the forum, but a commited lurker.
I haven't used a monorail, but I can confirm that the Ebony 45SU referenced above is indeed a very flexible camera with generous movements. I use it without any fuss with lenses from 58 to 300mm. ...
Matthew - I doubt that you'd see a vast (if any) difference between the 4870 and the 2450. I think you're just seeing the limitations of consumer flat-bed scanners. They are 'just ok'. Cheers, Eric
Ted,
They aren't a small lab, but they did mention that they don't process much sheet film anymore (which raised red flags for me). They are some sort of Fuji lab whatever that means. There are...
Thanks Ted.
This patterning does seem to be on most if not all sheets I've had processed at this lab. Its hard to detect if there aren't patches of uniform colour and sometimes a strong colour...
Hi,
I'm a recent convert to LF (coming from the digital darkside). I have a problem with my E6 sheets that is either a problem with the lab's process or with condensation (according to a...
