    Re: Choosing between ULF formats

    Dan, I've been shooting ULF for some time now. I build all of my cameras ( 3 8x10's, 1 11x14, 2 8x20's and 4 14x17's.) The formats I use now are 8x10, 8x20 and 14x17. I've sold the rest except a...

Re: Best practices for soft focus lenses?

All the suggestions for lighting and not stopping down the lenses more than a stop or stop and a half are what I'd recommend as well. Study the works of those that were suggested and have fun. Shoot...

Send me the Efke 25. I know what to do with it.
  16. Re: Monalog Collective at Gallery 270 Westwood NJ/ Bergen County Camera

Vaughn, we have had some good times in the Redwoods, many in fact and more to come for sure. The 8x20 book is something I'm quite proud of and I appreciate the kind words you wrote for the book.
  17. Re: Monalog Collective at Gallery 270 Westwood NJ/ Bergen County Camera

    Peter, I'll see you there!

Here is the plate and the Quick stand XL plate for the camera which is 4.375x6" long. When I was considering this system I contacted them and asked if they had a longer Kick stand plate. They did not...
  21. Re: Have any of you downgraded from 8x10 to 4x5? Why?

I'm with Jim Noel on this one. I'll keep shooting 8x10, 8x20 and 14x17 and then downsize to maybe 5x7 in my 90's. Now that means building a 5x7 of course.

Re: My Last Two Sheets Of 8x10 Efke 25

I shot Efke 25 in 8x10 for years. It gave me outstanding negatives in Pyrocat-HD . I'm down to about 30 sheets.
  23. Re: 2024 is the year of ultra large photography

To me ULF is a contact print from a ULF film negative, period. Now that is just me. We all can agree that seeing prints in person is the only way to enjoy a finely crafted contact print. I am very...

    Re: Forest fires out West

I say "burn them at the stake!" If they catch an arsonist that should be the punishment. I know it is not PC to say this. If we allow arson to keep happening without harsh punishment it will...

Hugo, great! I hope the opening goes well.
  28. Re: Bail Back Variation..... all format & History

That was the one thing I really liked about my 8x10 Seneca Improved. I never tried to do that in any of the cameras I've built.

Re: Show us your home made camera...

Thanks everyone. Since I have three 8x10's it looks like the two Ebony style cameras are spoken for. I still have enough parts that I made for three more cameras! Maybe this winter? Possibly Cherry...
  30. Re: What ever happened to rear swings AND tilts on field view cameras?

I've built many cameras. 8x10's, 8x20 and four 14x17's and they all have rear tilts and swings. My latest 8x10 has asymmetrical tilts on the rear along with swings and base tilts. I've always seen...

My latest 8x10. It is Mahogany and fashioned after the Ebony SW810. Can't wait to try it out.
  32. Re: Wind movement in scenes especially with large format photography

Vaughn, I love these two examples. Vaughn and I have worked in the redwoods together for some time now. There have been many times in the Southern Redwoods when Mother Nature holds her breath for us....
  33. Re: Have any of you downgraded from 8x10 to 4x5? Why?

Dan, nice job on the enlarger.

I love shooting my 8x10 camera. It is my "point and shoot." Contact printing in carbon with 8x10 negatives is pure joy as is printing 8x20 and 14x17 negatives. Some...

I've shot the GP-3 film in 14x17 and it is just fine. No defects or problems.
  38. Re: Pyrocat-HD Edge Effects Via Stand/Semi-Stand

Andrew, nice job again. I've looked back at some of my nicest negatives and they were all 1:1:150 with the 3 minute agitation cycle in dip and dunk tanks for 8x10.
  39. Re: Are slower films more contrasty or less contrasty than faster ASA films ?

Drew, I agree with you. I still have a diminishing stash of 8x10 Efke-25 and it will build contrast for days. I've made most of my carbon prints in 8x10 using this film. It is a thicker emulsion and...
