i plan to be there along with another regular poster who can name himself if he wishes. sounds like a good event.
anybody signed up for view camera magazine's LF photo conference in springfield, mass to be held may 20-22?? anybody gonna sign/show up??
the notion that the berleback can only hold c.20lbs is ridiculous. it can support much more than that. toilet paper spoils and cellotape can hold 20lbs. having said that, just hope the day never...
i was told at photoplus east about four years ago that nikon had stopped making LF lenses and were just selling down from inventory. i guess the boxes in the warehouse are starting to empty.
...
roger -- what about the fine horseman 6x9 view cameras. the rollfilm back will be a real convenience in your situation. the "multiformat" versions also accept 4x5 backs.
a horeseman 980 is now...
i think the vaseline may be overkill, but i was nervous about sticking. i used only a very thin film.
the actually fact is that the sheets really aren't that sticky, more like oily. i don't...
hi -- i just stack them in a 4x5 sheet film box (25 sheet size) with thin mylar sheets i have cut to size and smeared with vaseline between them. i reuse these sheets several times without washing. ...
just about my favorite mf/lf film these days is polaroid 55 and 665 positive negative film. beautiful tonality, teensy grain, and nice to be able to check compostion in the field.
the downside...
many, even most, synchro-compurs have preview levers. this lens does not. it is really best not to just guess about these things if you don't actually know the answer.
notwithsatnding michael's helpful comments, there is no preview button the shutter you describe. a locking cable release is required (or you can hold it open on B or hire someone to stand next to...
not all shutter have preview facility by any means. the lens you describe, which i own in linhof select form, does not have preview.
to preview with such a lens. merely use a locking cable...
notwithsatnding the foregoing, you are correct, it is hit or miss given the typical focal lengths and apertures.
for me the answer has never been to stop down, as i very much like (even extreme)...
why they cost so much -- ebay. ebay has jacked up the prices for all niche market items (and driven down the cost of commodities). when there are a few hundred customers for a particular item...
since the recent buyout, has anyone heard any more news about the future of packfilm/4x5 polaroid, especially the wonderful p/n material??
does anyone know if fuji plans to add a 665 product to...
i guess i am in the minority. i have been using my rebuilt (by jack) V8 for about ten years with great satisfaction. my other principal LF camera is a master tech, so it is safe to say that i know...
and by the way the best 6x9 cameras are the horseman (technical) and ebony (squishable).
that french toast recipe looks familiar. is it from the photographer's formulary cookbook??
at this rate we'll all be making our own film AND french toast.
perish the thought.
along the same lines, is french toast really french??
further, like film, it seems to be in serious decline. even places that specialize in breakfast don't seem to offer french toast anymore. i...
thank you so much!!
hi glenn -- you are absolutely right. the film plane of the pola back is about 1 - 2 mm further back than the film plane of the camera ordinarily. that much i have found out so far.
i am really...
hi -- i got a horseman pola back for use with my 980. it came with the two spacers (the rf spacer and the g spacer). any idea how to use the spacers and what they are designed to accomplish?? the...
thanks tracy. yes, as you seem to know, the 8x10 processing is not easily done in the field, at the time of exposure. while there are manual units, most of the 8x10 processors require mains current...
hi -- over the years, i have found that does not do much good to ask others about dev times. there are way too many variables that may affect times, including agitation technique, calibration of...
to be clear (for the benefit of sematical sticklers and other assorted noodges), ill-effects to the film that is.
after shooting 8x10 polas (type 84 and 89), how long can you wait to develop before suffering ill effects?? specifically, is 10 days too long??
thanks!!
a 2 gig file (actually i hope it will be a bit larger) is nothing. i will have them put it on a 40 gig hard drive for me. i will need at least 80 gig i reckon to handle the upsizing that inevitably...
thanks again for your help!! cool stuff david.
as for the why, i am going to try my hand at my own gigapixel project. i am going to make the highest resolution negative i can in 8x10, then scan it at 4800dpi -- 9600dpi, then print out an 8 foot...
what are the options for scanning 8x10 negs?? does the 4870 take 8x10??
thanks!!
why do people want the rebate printed??
when you said 5-6 inches from the center, i assumed you meant exactly that; i.e. basically at the very edge of an 8x10 view screen (which is a little more than 6 inches from the center to corner. ...
this lens will be a frustration for you. it is a bear to focus wide open and really only adequate for 8x10 in a pinch. i think you will be much happier with a g-claron 355mm if what you want is a...
b&h will let you return anything you buy. same with badger and many others. order up a few and return what you don't like.
or you can just buy a b1 and be done with it.
it really is important to try these things out. people who have experience of low cost (under $100) ball heads may well have a false impression of how a really good ballhead, with variable tension,...
hi -- i just checked the l&r website. they still list the 270mm rectagon for $500. they will probably take less. i was wrong about the max ap -- it is an f10. my recollection is that the mount is...
hi -- the 12" dagors will not reliably cover 12/20 in my experience. however, there is huge sample to sample variation in actual circle of *illumination* with these lenses, and so you may find a 12"...
you can censor me if you like, but i still think there is something untoward about a distributor recommending his own products on a website like this, especially where he does not make it plain that...
like it better than the nikkor 300??
i can absolutely guarantee that you will have all the tri-x you need for the next ten years -- provided you buy a ten year supply, place it in those nifty lead shield bags and drop it into a freezer...
