My first contribution to this thread...nothing spectacular, just learning how.

There is a nice emphemeris program available free for pocketPC that I use on my smartphone.

It may be that I am not meticulous/patient enough for that philosophy.
I would say that I've very seldom fired off a shot just because I was there, except perhaps with a digital camera. I wouldn't...
The extra time shooting isn't the most tiresome part, it's the time loading/unloading film and developing. Of course, that slows down shooting as well because those shots are far more precious in...
I had my first opportunity to take the Gran View out to shoot since I fixed the early issues.
I ran in to a few problems, all related to my inexperience with large format. I exposed 12 sheets of...

Gran View 4x5 75mm Super Angulon TXP in Barry's 2-Bath developer
Barry Thornton's 2-bath formula.
Agitation was constant with a jobo drum and unicolor roller.
Just one sheet in the jobo.
No, no filter.
The sun was pretty much to the left of me. Could the darkness be internal reflections in the lens?
The light leak was my shoddy job of mounting a copal 0 lens to a copal 1 helical. On top of that, the flat black paint I used on the inside of the camera wasn't very flat.
No polarizing filter. ...
Well, I managed to eliminate/reduce the massive light leak/reflected light that caused my big white tunnel effect....
I load freehand too. I'm a newbie at this and have only developed about 20 sheets...still, last time I did it, it went off without a hitch.
I only load 4 sheets per roll because 6 always seems to...
Split image prisms perform poorly at smaller apertures. Even f5.6 can cause one of the halves of the prism to go dark.
I should have made this clear...sorry.
What I've posted is a scan of the negative. I have no wet darkroom, so this is not an enlarging problem.
I'm pretty sure what I'm seeing is a result of...
....or, it could be the piece of aluminum I've got the lens mounted to and forgot to paint black.
I open the shutter, light reflects off of the aluminum and the center part of the image is shadowed...
Except of course...it's all white?
This must be some sort of huge light leak?

My calculations regarding a 6x12 back (I'm thinking of buying one too).
A basic 6x12 back can be found on the auction site for <$200.
I can get 120 roll film developed for little more than it...
47 on 6x12? Someone likes it wide....
Are you trying to stick to roll fim for color? Is that why you don't just shoot 65mm on 4x5 instead (nearly equivalent FOV)?

I just wanted to close the loop on this transaction.
When I first tried to mount the lens, I could not achieve infinity. Playing with it, I realized something must be wrong with the lens because...
My cambo board seems to be recessed about 32-33mm (crude measure).
If I had a bi-plane, I'd be all over that.
Wooo Whoooo!
I received the correct rear element today and it's looking good. I can get infinity and am working on setting up the focus now.

Additional information.
I contacted the seller to see if he had any history with this lens. He's telling me that it's possible that he mixed the rear element with one of two other lenses when the...
Ok, from the top.
With the helical set to infinity, I get a flange distance of 70-78mm.
The lens will not focus until I get it closer than 70mm.
Shouldn't I conclude that something is wrong...
yes I did. Thats where I got the 70mm number.
the schnider site says something like 82mm flange distance. why would this lens need to be closer than 70mm?
Im missing something.
No idea of the intended lens except to say that it is copal 1 and its intended for a flange distance of between 70 and 78mm flange distance.
The helical is as you describe, but the lens wont focus no matter how close in it is adjusted....by 10mm or more.
If that were so, wouldnt te 75mm lens need to be further away from the film plane instead of closer?
One additional bit of information.
The flange distance measures about 70mm at its minimum and 78mm at its maximum.
Why the heck would the lens need to be closer than 70mm?
Hi,
Starting a new thread because I need help.
I'm trying to get the 75mm lens mounted to the Gran View I bought. The problem is that it will not focus more than about 8 inches away from the...
Ok, here it is in all its glory.
Pardon the ugly bit of aluminum that the lens is mounted on. An aluminum donut was the only way I could figure to mount that lens.
