  1. Re: Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize

I guess I was also right that he doesn't use movements much. ;)

Re: I have found the bottom

Eliminate all the variables. Even if you think a brick wall is steady, use a tripod to be sure. As pointed out above, the camera is firmly attached to the tripod.

Is your 75mm enlarger lens high...

Re: I have found the bottom

Did you use a cable release?
  4. Re: Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize

It could be medium format, or just 35mm (more likely a DSLR) with a fast lens. I think there's some convergence in the door frame. Of course, he could be a large format photographer who prefers to...

Re: I have found the bottom

I don't think anyone mentioned your enlarger as the possible problem. What lens and aperture were you using?

And definitely stop down below f/11.

What do you have against tripods? If you...

Re: The Future of Film Photography

Did film photography have a meaningful past?

I am referring to the actual use of film by typical consumers. Their pictures probably haven't lost much in the transition to digital, because they...

    Re: Natural forms

These are good. I like the grains of sand on the pigeon wing; they remind me of the fisherman's glove picture by Aaron Siskind (Gloucester). ...

    Natural forms

I looked at some of the threads here--trees, churches, landscapes--and didn't think my photographs fit those categories. I am interested in natural forms revealed through close study of details, not...
  12. Re: The case of Walker Evans and the alarm clock......

You're right; I should have considered my word choice more carefully. I don't consider Evans a "straight" photographer in the Group f/64 sense, but even if he had rearranged items it would not have...
  13. Re: The case of Walker Evans and the alarm clock......

I would hesitate before lumping Evans in with the other FSA photographers. According to "The Hungry Eye," Evans was interested in the project purely as an aesthetic endeavor. He clearly was not...

Re: The Art of the Portrait

While this is an interesting subject, I doubt anyone can recommend a valid approach for you.

And I'm not sure it's a worthwhile endeavor to fix a meaning of "portraiture" either. Form should...
