A Keith Walklet photograph was chosen to be included in the 2013 Yosemite Renaissance exhibit in Yosemite Valley. His photograph "Pebbles and Ice" was one of 49 paintings, photographs or sculptures...
Thanks for the info Preston, next week I was going to meet a few friends in Dusy Basin, who are doing the John Muir trail, but they came out early due to the smoke, must be pretty bad there. I live...
Congratulations John and Anne,
I'll try to make it!

Thanks Vinny,
Does anyone have a piece of Ilford 11 by 14 film they could measure for me? I think thats the only size readily available.
Ari, You have to be really careful drilling metal. The bit will have a tendency to grab the metal with unforeseen results, and whatever you do, don't use one of those adjustable (wing cutter) drill...
Greetings and Happy New Year!
Can someone tell me the exact dimensions of 11 by 14 and 14 by 17 film? Also, does anyone know if there are dimension variations across the different manufacturers?...
Thanks everyone,
I'll give the PMA a try. Wish me luck!

Greetings,
I've searched the forum, and have come up with conflicting info. I have some color ink-jet and c-prints to mount, and was wondering how you do it. I tried dry mounting with a heated...
Thats a strange one. Bad batch of film? Try making a few more exposures at various f-stops, maybe develop one with no exposure. Have you used this batch of film before? Its possible hair or dust was...
Definitely check out an Arca B-1 ballhead. I've used mine for over 25 years with various 4 by 5 view cameras, and with a quick release, always works flawlessly. I keep it clean, but thats all it...
A forum member is selling negative carriers for a Saunders D5 enlarger. I have a Saunders 4550 LPL, and I'm wondering if anyone knows if those D5 carriers will fit the 4550 LPL. I need a 6 by 7...
Nice work Robert! I agree with Preston, the light on Conness is like a gem in the distance. I'd love to get up there. I think the record will have been broken for the closing date of the Tioga road.
The term "Hobo" is derived from "Homeward Bound". Not sure if this was the inspiration for the cameras name, but they are very portable cameras and easy to use, considering they came in 4 by 5 and 8...
Hi Steve, I'll take 5 boxes of QL Acros.
Thanks,
-Brad
Mark,
Students can be a very powerful voice. A few years ago a similar unwise decision was made to dump the darkroom in favor of digital workstations at a local high school. Enrollment for the...
I think one of us inventor types might be able to apply this idea to a 4 by 5 camera. Check it out!

Thanks Michael and Jim,
Jim, Do you know of a source for the 14 by 17 x-ray film? Doesn't Ilford offer a bulk purchase of their odd-size films occasionally?
Thanks,again,
-Brad
Yes, another project....(or fools errand)....(somebody please stop me).....
I have checked the archives, and came up empty. I am looking for a source for 14 by 17 inch film. Does anyone have an...
Totally Cool Austin,
Have you gone 5 by 7 on us? (As opposed to 8 by 10)
I really like this photograph. NASA may be calling you to find out how you did this.....

In the mid 1970s, Barbara Morgan visited our photography class at UC Berkeley. One of my classmates, upon viewing several of Barbaras prints said "Barbara, want to trade prints?" She did. Why didn't...
I use an Osprey Aether 60 for multiday trips. Its great, and it holds my camera (Toyo CF), tripod strapped to it, and everything I need for up to about 7 days out. Heres the link:

Don't worry, I've done the following TWICE in the last year. In a deep forest my Pentax digital read 4 sec, but since it was such dim light, I read the meter and set the lens at 1/4 sec.
Needless to...
Nice work William, lets see more!
Here is water worn granite in the Tuolumne River Canyon. I was told these forms were caused by water flowing under the glacier and carving into the granite. Notice...
Keep those coming Austin! Here's some glacial polish in the High Sierra near Yosemite.
Thanks everyone for the replies. One of the most frustrating backpacking requirements is to carry a bear-proof canister, a plastic 2-1/2 pound box that bears can't get into and eat your food supply....
I've probably got about 60 sheets of Fuji Acros in quickload left, and when this is gone, it will be gone. I'm wondering what all of you who backpack with a 4 by 5 are going to use?
Quikloads...
Heres one from Waterwheel Falls last summer at high noon. I would really love to be there in the next few weeks, it would be awesome.
Toyo CF with Fuji 240A with random stacked up filters to...
I agree with what Vinny said. For all the commitment in using 4by5 film, to use "cheap" film is potentially wasting a lot of your time. I can't possibly see how you could have done this to this film,...
If you have a chance to see the new National Geographic, there is a fabulous article about Abelardo Morell, a photographer who has photographed the camera obscura effect in incredible ways.
I...
Hey Mike, I just signed up for a SmugMug account to post photos of my kids sports for the teams and parents. I'm not doing it for profit, but SmugMug offers some really good options for selling your...
Thanks for the replies.
Gnuyork I have the 6 by 8 size and David I am doing some drawing, but mostly retouching in PS. I'll keep using it and it will hopefully become more intuitive (sorry for the...
I recently acquired an Intuos 2 tablet, and since I'm new to this tablet technology, I was wondering if the newer tablets are worth it. I've been attempting to get the feel of it, but it seems to be...
Hey Bettersense, It's called re-purposing, excellent use of a trophy.

You might try black emery paper with water as the lubricant, works fast, and the water removes the grit very efficiently.
I agree with Curt, you could build an amazing 8 by 10 camera. Your photograph is beautiful, so is the subject!
Good Luck,
-Brad
I've used one for years, with no problems, taking it on a lot of backpacking trips. I use light lenses, but never felt it was fragile, and although its not built like a tank, it has worked very well...
Nikkor SW f8. Exceedingly sharp, light and with good coverage. Its my widest lens!

Hayduke Lives!
Sick!!! (You must have teenagers about the house to understand "sick" is really cool.....)
