I'm very interested in your choice of B&W film when shooting in a low contrast or a high contrast scene.
Of course, there's always the push and pull approach for any given film...
A graduated grey was recently purchased and handed over to me in the same manner as you described. Wasn't happy with the presentation either, but found no scratches on the filter. I have it wrapped...
