As mentioned above, Kodak advertised coatings.

"L"=Luminized (coated).
No "L"= not coated.

It simply means harsh or distracting bokeh, often characterised with a double line effect with straight edges that are out of focus, or a kind of onion ring or doughnut effect in out of focus...

If you expect painterly or pictorial effects then you will be disappointed. Most older enlarging lenses will flare more than taking lenses, but not in a dramatic way.

+1, clean, fresh breath doesn't work as well, not enough kick!

Ian, Sinar is nice an easy to work with so I doubt you would go too far wrong with the F1. I have an F and P and find them great but the F is really a little flimsy, IMHO.
