For what it's worth, I made up a 800mm rail for my cambo 8x10 legend out of maple. I machined the profile (which you don't have to do) on my table saw. much lighter than the ally one and very stiff.
I'd skip both (if your planning on taking it out of a studio environment), i've found the F sinars to be fragile, don't pack down easily to a small size, are heavy and have too much platic bits in...
hmmm, those Zone VI plexi print flatteners are seriously useable and also very collectible in germany...a shop in cologne sells them for over 500 euro.
for what it's worth i use 4mm black perspex to make lens boards for my 8x10 and 4x5 cameras and find that it's easy to machine and strong enough to support my heaviest lenses...
