Thanks Merg. Looks like I learned something useful tonight!

Thanks Mike. I can't put my hands on the instructions at the moment but I do have the black plug and it does fit into the hole at the top of the outlet. Next time I use the washer I'll try that. ...
Hoping that I had somwhow missed something, I went into the bathroom where the washer is sitting on a cart drying after use this afternoon and photgraphed it. Unfortunately there are no bottom...
A cracked window into the Universe! Nice image Merg.
Thomas
Roger,
The siphon hole is at the top of the washer, not the bottom.

Several years back, when I was assembling my dark room, I purchased a Gravity Works 20x24 print washer from a local seller at a good price ($200). It was mint - still in the B&H box that it was...
Great idea for a new thread Jim. I've been on the verge of going back to Bodie for the past couple of weeks but this time with the 8x10 in tow for some salt prints.
Great image Harley.

BTW, if you're not available when they attempt delivery, you can arrange to pick it up from them in the evening after work. I do it all the time.

I could be wrong but I believe that FedEx only guarantees their overnight and not the 2-day service. If you need it in 2 days, choose the overnight service and you will be guaranteed to receive it....
Thanks for the input, Bob, and now recalling from my visit to the Elevator in April that is exactly the way you printed when I was there.
Truthfully, split-contrast printing was not even on my...
Forgot to mention: The filtration was 200Y and 200M.
Thomas
Ah...Forgot to mention that I used a Beseler 45S Color head in very good condition.
Andrew, can you elaborate on how you determined that?
Thomas
Consider it to be an "average" daylight exposure with a full range of tones with "normal" development and agitation at 68F.

A darkroom junkie's delight:
I just finished printing an Acros negative developed in WD2D+ on Oriental double weight glossy VC fiber paper in Dektol 2:1. If the exposure was 9 seconds with a #00...
Thanks again sandy. I think that I will try both rotary and tray developing 3 tonight.
Thomas
That's a good idea Sandy.
One question: I usually rotary process Delta 100 in Xtol 1:1 for 20-21 minutes. If I tray process for that long with Pyrocat-HD at the above dilution, would I need to...
Thanks Sandy. I'll try that. But that would seem to preclude the split printing process with respect to the silver print - you print with the 00 filter for the highlights and with the 5 filter for...
Well that is certainly intriguing Sandy. Over the weekend I exposed 6 8x10 negatives on Delta 100 of 3 different subjects. I shot two of each for the express purpose of developing one for a silver...
That doesn't sound right to me. Are you saying that Pyrocat-HD allows you to develop the same negative at two different densities? I just can't imagine having one negative that exhibits two...
The water in the bubble level indicating tilt on the front standard of my To yo 810G was dry. So instead of spending the $40+ to replace it with a new level, I decided to switch with the level on...
In other words, there is a limit beyond which increased resolution is meaningless and the native resolution of film far exceeds that limit.

And more Starbucks too:)
Also, there's two rental darkrooms in San Francisco: SF Parks and Recreation and Rayko. Both are within two miles of each other and the latter has 2 8x10 enlargers (1...
Well, I'll chime in for a Northern California stop. After all, what does Southern California have that Northern California doesn't have - and more of too:p
Thank you. If only people with that sentiment were there in '68.
I don't think Eastwood was a veteran but he certainly came to an understanding that few have. Was he being "profound"? I don't...
I've had great success with WD2D+ that I purchased several years back. Over the weekend I picked up Pyrocat HD at a local supplier with the intent to tray process a couple of 8x10 negatives with...
Yes. I believe that Clint Eastwood both understood and tried to convey this by filming Letters from Iwo Jima in muted color.

Depending on the subject, I photograph in both black & white and color. But if it works, black & white is able to elict a much greater emotive reaction in the viewer than color. I served as a...
If you haven't already, I recommend going to the Kodak website and downloading Technical Paper J-39: http://www.kodak.com/global/en/professional/support/techPubs/j39/j39.pdf

When I got home this afternoon I placed a pyro developed negative and an "regular" xtol developed negative side by side in strong light and as David noted above the pyro negative was markedly warm in...
One further question: Can you tell by the color if the stock is too old. I bought this several years ago but never opened the bottles or removed the shrink wrap. In addition, each bottle had its...
To follow-up, with the first batch I mixed the working solution with the lights on, then turned them off any put the film in the presoak for 2 minutes. On the 2d batch I turned the lights off,...
I was hesitant about its age but I did a quick online check and the shelf life seemed indefinite until opened. So I took it out of the shrink wrap and, except for the expected stain, got good...
I bought this 3 years ago but never used it - until this week. I tray developed several 4x5 negatives using a water stop and TF5 fixer. Although the negatives look good I don't see a "stain" that...
Forgot to mention that F. Holland Day was coburn's uncle and mentor.

Update:
Pinkham & Smith were opticians in Boston,
Massachusetts whose primary business was dispensing eyeglass prescriptions as
well as making lenses for binoculars and telescopes. They had an...
Terrific image, Harley. I won't believe that this was not shot on film.

Here's an interesting quote by Alvin Langdon Coburn, an internationally renowned Pictoralists of the late 19th early 20th crntury:
"My only concession to the taste of the time was the use of a...
It's been a while since I was last there, but I highly doubt that it has been vandalized or in danger of being closed down. Federal police man an entrance station on the road and make you show ID to...
La Purisima is very camera friendly and the cactus photogenic. I shot a roll of 120 with a 6x4.5 camera trying to imitate Brett Weston's black cactus images.
