I'm not using a center filter with mine, but for filters, I'm using 4" gels (poly) in a cardboard frame. I just hold them up there with my hand. Pretty barbaric, but it works.

Mine released from customs yesterday. I'll start holding my breath.
What's the clock/timer hanging on that stone wall? Looks nice. Thanks.
I used a big Jobo tank for years. It was fine. Now I use tubes, like the BTZS, made from black ABS pipe. Each film in its individual tube. These are easy, cheap, and work fine. If you don't like...
I have read a lot of Chamonix reviews, but still have a few questions:
What is the quality of the groundglass? I'll be using without the Fresnel.
The pictures look as though the corners of...
Metrolux is still available from new stock.

I've got a couple of tracks in my darkroom with low wattage halogens. Works great for general white lighting. Then red LED christmas lights for the general safe lighting.
I have had a Feisol for about two years. Moderate use. I also have two Gitzos, one for the 45 and a bigger one for the 57. All carbon fiber. I got the Feisol for its lighter weight and lower...
Order and printed on new stock of Variotone. It is definitely more contrasty than the older stock with the #5 filter in place. I guess I need to print more and put the excess stock in the fridge.
Tech pan. Hope you stocked up.
I've gone both ways, that is from the Valley north by Scottie's and in from the north. It really depends. One time, it was actually faster to go out of the valley and around and come in from the...

My paper is a little over a year old and was not in cold storage, although not abused either. I have new stock coming tomorrow and I shall test the difference and report.
I printed with Variotone this weekend. I love the coloration, but it hit a wall on contrast. I tried to get it to go up from 3 to 3.5 to 4 and even 5. After 3.5, I didn't see any change in...
What quality and size? Try Dalsa Canada, Kodak, Fairchild Imaging. These guys make top of the line.
I bought a low miles, CB-7 with lots of goodies, including a nice lens for $125 about a year ago. The CB7 is the rare fancy model of the 45M. I gave away the low miles 45M I had to a good friend of...
Brian, I couldn't find it either. I don't think it exists...the link that is.
People close their eyes in the darkroom so they don't see the light leaking under the door.
I wondering if there is a rule of thumb for conversion from continuous agitation, as with sheet film in a tube, every 30 second inversions, as with roll film in a tank? I've been trying to align the...
Once you get the rings out of the way, the filter thickness can induce some distortion as the angle of the light through the lens becomes extremely off-axis. You can use gels for colored filters for...
Never seen anything smaller than 8 x 10. We used to make them with a box with a cover. We'd cut the two back edges of the top and tape it to the bottom to make a hinge. Worked pretty well, but...
I've bought LF lenses from Igor twice. He has nice stock and fair prices. The first purchase went off without a hitch. Second time, I was looking for a specific, modern, rare lens. I called him...
I use the 135, 150, and the 180mm. They are all Nikkors. Fine lenses. Shorter for bigger prints and longer for smaller prints. The longer the lens gives more even illumination (the angles are...
Space heater for the room. Wool socks for the feet.
Fenderfour, I'm trying to deboss an area 5x7 inches. I thought about a book press, but not enough pressure. I don't see any way except for the etching press or bigger.
I have a print that must be 30 years old that is in a debossed well. It has not changed in 30 years and the back is flat. The mat board is compressed and stays that way. You can mount a pic in a...
Jan, I'd love to come out to St Fe.
I don't have room for an etching press or a Carver. Kevin Martini-Fuller says he knows a way. Probably involves a car jack.
I emailed you. Hope the old...

de-bossing is the opposite, with respect to the top surface, of embossing. Deboss is pushing the finished surface down and embossing is pushing it up. A debossed mat is one with a well...
I want to de-boss a mat board for dry mounting prints about 5x7 inches. I know this is usually done with an etching press, but I don't have the room. I'd like to know if it is possible with a small...
Where is the link?
Bill, I love it. It has personality and looks lived in.
Oliver Gagliani photographed there, but it might be hard to tell which of his images are from Sicily.
Anything can happen, but this storm, if it happens, will be the first of the season and typically not powerful or long lasting. Always carry supplies as mentioned above. You might get some unusual...
If the one you have works, hang on to it and use it gingerly. Actually, I have never had to replace mine in 20 years or so. I've had different tubes, but never had to replace. I do hear horror...
I have them. Always have. They come and go. If I get one in a bad spot I spin my eyes round and round and they move. That has always fixed it. Seems to spin them off to the side without the...
I waited and eventually found a used one. If you are using the 72 on 4x5, you may not have much of a problem. I use it on 5x7 and there is some fall off, but in some pix it doesn't matter. I've...
I have some shoes I wear when I have to stand all day. They aren't soft as those mats, but it makes me wonder if one could buy a 'springy' shoe for standing on hard floors.
Cut a piece of linoleum to the exact size and set it on the floor. No glue. I did this in my present darkroom, altho it is concrete slab. I used real linoleum instead of vinyl. It is a wonderful...

This coupled with the fact that there is nothing of aesthetic value in Long Beach.
