Now even machines are trying to confuse us poor North Americans. The one I like best was what spellcheckers do to an informal French restaurant. Two men having lunch in a brassiere. I've actually seen this one twice.
Instant translation software is even better for confusion. "Camera" a Latin and Italian word meaning room as well as a photographic device, becomes "chambre" in French, but the software turns it right back into "room".
I don't read French well at all (oddly, the more technical the better) but find it easier to read the original French than what the software turns out.

Ernest : another example of faux-amis not detected by ordinary automated word-to-word translators, in photographic terms. A "print" is named 'tirage' in French, but 'tirer' also means "to pull". So
why do you insist so much to "pull" your negatives in France instead of "pushing" them ;-);-)
