Epson Expression 12000XL-PH lauched
Heads up that this 11x17 scanner has been updated with the launch of the 12000 version. Don't think there has been much in the way of improvements over the 11000XL version but then I don't own either. For list price of just under $3.5 with the transparency unit I wonder how much better this is than the Epson V850 (the current top of the line 8x10 scanner from Epson)

Re: Epson Expression 12000XL-PH lauched
It's not "better" - if the predecessor models are any guide, for scanning transparent materials it will fall just short of the V700/V800 series. The extra cost is for the much larger scan bed, and the only reason to buy one is if you need that.

And for that price or not too much more you can probably get an older Eversmart or IQsmart (or other pro flatbed) which IS better. And scans 12 x 18.
I upgraded to an IQsmart 2 and it's day and night IMHO - as always YMMV.

Tell me why they are so much better? I'm interesting to know why? Of course you may have to run a legacy OS...

3-4 times optical resolution for one.

Thank you - and the software is easy to use? Can be used on a Mac?

My Screen Cezanne works on a Mac G4 with OSX (an older version). I'm a Windows guy so it works fine as basically a control terminal. You generally have to dedicate a computer to these old machines and they are big and heavy, but worth it.
If you are looking for one shoot me a message, I may have something of interest for you.
Re: Epson Expression 12000XL-PH lauched
Sorry I'm late replying. Optical resolution is a big reason, but it's primarily because I think I'm getting more of what's in the negative. I went around and around about getting a drum scanner vs an "industrial" flatbed and concluded that for me the workflow advantages of the flatbed vs the drum scanner sold me, particularly since I sometimes want to scan reflective material. I have an old MacBook dedicated to the scanner and the oXYgen scan software runs just fine on it (and it has a firewire port.) There's a bare bones version of the scan software for Win XP, I believe.
i find the software a little fussy but otherwise easy to use.
