Art Walk in the Park, July 12, Glen Echo Park, Glen Echo, Maryland
Just wanted to let everyone know that if you're in the area, you're welcome to attend the Friday, July 12 Art Walk In The Park at Glen Echo Park, which is just outside Washington DC. Photoworks is a non-profit photography center located in Glen Echo Park, and will be doing an open house that evening from 6-8pm. The July theme is Large Format Jamboree - we'll have some exotic large format cameras on display (8x10 pinhole, 5x12, 14x17, maybe a Graflex SLR, among others), along with shooting opportunities if you want to bring your own. We'll have a print show-and-tell, so if you're interested, bring ONE image and be ready to talk about it for a minute (no more than 2 minutes) and do a short Q&A. Please invite anyone you think might be interested - the event is free and open to the public.

I gather Glen Echo is no longer an amusement park? What a shame. One of the highlights of my life as a kid was our school trips there.

Brian- Glen Echo ceased being an amusement park in the early 1970s. It is now owned by the US Park Service and operates as a community arts center, with dance, ceramics, glass, painting, photography and sculpture centers, as well as the Spanish Ballroom hosting social dancing several nights a week. The sole reminder of the original purpose of the park is the Dentzel Carousel, which was fully restored back in the 1990s. Photoworks, where I teach, has been in the park for 40 years this year.

Just a reminder if anyone is interested, Art Walk in the Park is tomorrow night. I'll have my 5x12 and 14x17 Canhams there for folks to see, and I'll probably bring the 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 RB Graflex SLR along too. I know an 8x10 pinhole will be making an appearance, and some folks will be bringing prints to show so that it's not just all about gear.
