Epson Scan Size Limit in 48bit mode
I've noticed that when I choose anything over 2400dpi 48bit for my 4x5 negatives I receive a message stating something to the effect of size is too large for the area selected. Obviously it won't scan. I own a v850. I would like to be able to push it to 3200 in 16bit ( 48bit ) for my color negatives.
I dont have this issue with Silverfast but have noticed some color scans look much better via Epson scan, specifically Portra 400. I am using a MacBook with 16gb ram 2015 and the OS version prior to the latest version.
Re: Epson Scan Size Limit in 48bit mode
I think the reason could be that Epson Scan are a 32 bit application and Silverfast are a 64 bit application (more memory space for scans).

You can call Epson support but I doubt they will be able to solve the issue for you. If you search the archives, this problem has unfortunately been discussed multiple times over a number of years without finding a consistent solution.

Re: Epson Scan Size Limit in 48bit mode
The issue is the amount of memory in the scanner itself.
The scanner has to assemble the raw data before the scan is sent to the computer.
It has nothing to do with the applications running on your computer.
But they may each have their own limits.

I hear you. But Vuescan and Silverfast will produce massive scans without issue. A 6400 DPI 4x5 scan works as normal. With Epson Scan it won't go past 2400 which is perfectly fine, just trying to figure out why.

I think scanner's hardware sends the image to PC while scanning. If it was what you say Silverfast would have same limitation than Epson Scan.

Ian, maybe try it with a 4x5 document size? 100x125mm
Re: Epson Scan Size Limit in 48bit mode
it's not helping you to scan at that size, it's just interpolating the data. Scan at a smaller size and do the interpolation yourself in photoshop. Your optical resolution is going to be somewhere closer to 1600.

Does it matter if you save as Tiff or Jpeg?
