G-Claron for enlarging 5x7
Hello,
I routinely use a 240 G Claron for enlarging 8x10 negatives and have good results with it. Does anyone know what the shortest length that I can use for enlarging 5x7 negatives. I have a 180 Componon and have been using it for my 5x7 but under my peak focuser the Componon seems to have some focus shift from the center to the edges at the wider aperatures and the G-Claron seems substantially sharper without any focus shift. I am making some large prints and would like to use the shortest lens possible. Any other suggestions are welcome.
Thanks

The 210 Nikkor works great for 5X7. I will cover 8X10, and it is usually quite inexpensive used. It is a big lens, though.

I took a look at the tables in the link above, but do not speak or read German. I'm sure that they are very informative if one does.

Arthur, you didn't look enough. The newer .pdfs have are in, in alphabetical order, English, French, German.

Dan,
I opened the latest .PDF and you are indeed correct, English is in there. Thanks, this should be very helpful.

Art, my old 150 EL-Nikkor (the 53mm mount one) covers 5x7. I use it and my 180 APO-Rodagon equally.

I use a 210 mm G Claron for 5x7 on my Durst 138s I have used a kodak 7and 1/4 inch also and the G Claron is a much better lens.

Another vote for a Nikkor EL 210 enlarging lens. I got mine off ebay for about $120. It is a large lens (72 mm mounting screw if I remember correctly) and may not fit well on some enlargers.
Sincerely,
Hany.

I suspect that if you have an 8x10 elarger then you should be able to fit the EL Nikkor 210 lens, though it may be good to check first. BTW as alluded to above some people use it to enlarge 8x10. It's coverage is that good and therefore you should see absolutely no light fall off at all with 5x7.

Hany.
