Ektachrome exposure technique for scanning

Sunday I shot and developed my first 2 Ektachrome 8x10 sheets and they look great technically, and the photos were just of junk out back and a car to test the process. But while exposing I realized I didn't know the answer to this question:

When shooting Ektachrome do you expose for the highlights or the shadows WHEN you plan on scanning them in (as opposed to printing off the negative)?

Since I only have ~3 fstops of latitude I'm pretty concerned about it :)

Expose for the highlights.

You can then scan for the highlights, make a second scan for the shadow detail, and combined them in Photoshop as a High Dynamic Range image.

I guess that makes sense because if I lose a highlight on a slide then that detail is gone.

Highlights!! Even a drum scanner cant pickup something thats not there.
