Braun SlideScan 4000 using Digital ICE
Hi, I recently bought a Braun SlideScan 4000 (similar to Reflecta Digitdia 5000) and was trying out the Digital ICE feature. But I doesnt seem to work allright. Can you take a look at these two detail-images (with and without Digital ICE) and tell med if this is what to expect or if I my hardware is malfunctioning perhaps ... ?

They where scanned using High quality, 8-bit per channel, 3600 dpi using CyperView X which came with the unit, and then cropped.
Re: Braun SlideScan 4000 using Digital ICE
This is a scanner for super slide and smaller images in standard 2x2" (50 x 50mm) slide mounts. Why ask this here in a large format forum?
If you have a question about the performance of the scanner please address it to s.drescher@braun-phototechnik.de. He can answer your questions.

Sorry I just assumed ... wasnt paying attention ... anyway, thanks for the e-mail-address... I will send my question to him instead.
The film is ordinary 35mm (135) Kodachrome in a slide. Positive. Thats all I know.

It certainly cleared up an awful lot of dust. Had you blown any standing dust off with a Rocket Blower or an air hose (not canned air)?
Re: Braun SlideScan 4000 using Digital ICE
The slide has been lying outside on the street in snow och mud for a couple of days. I thought it could be a good test-subject for the ICE-function. Yes it removes a lot of the dust but also leaves some more undesired effects. First, a lot of detail and contrast seem to be lost over the entire image and edges seem to be a lot more unfocused, blurred. Secondly it gets this weird opac overlay which can bee seen close to the lower left edge. It may be the area where the ICE-function is applied, but I don't know... Anyway, if this is the result I will be getting (normaly) using ICE then it doesnt seem to be worth it...
