Loupe for wide-angle lenses?
Hi,
Regrettably, I no longer have the eyes of my youth, and I'm finding it difficult to focus wide-angle lenses with a great degree of accuracy.
I have a 72, 90 115, and 210; the 210 is always focused perfectly because it's much easier to see the subject when there's greater magnification.
I've been getting soft images lately with my wides, especially 72 and 90.
My Peak 5x loupe, normally a great piece of plastic, might not be up to the task of focusing the wider lenses using my foggy blinkers.
Can anyone recommend a good inexpensive loupe in the 8x or 10x range? Or any range?
ps-I don't use reading glasses, I'm a contact lens wearer.
Thanks in advance.
Re: Loupe for wide-andle lenses?
8x or 10x just magnifies the texture of the ground glass. I've had better luck with my 6x peak. I think most of use the same loupe for all lenses.
Re: Loupe for wide-andle lenses?
Ari, I use the 3.6x Toyo loupe most of the time but, like you, have had problems getting good focus with my shorter lenses. I've taken to using a 12x loupe from Edmond, their # 30055.
vinny, I agree with your theory but it fails in practice. There's a big difference between the ease of discerning fine detail and seeing where the plane of best focus is at 3.6x and at 12x.

Vinny, that may be true, but I'll take an increase in GG texture if it means an increase in magnification; thanks.

Dan, thanks for the recommendation, I will look into it.

Old age is getting to me. Edmund, not Edmond.

Found it anyway, thanks again.
Looks very promising.
Re: Loupe for wide-angle lenses?
A 6x Silvestri tilting loupe, perchance?
Re: Loupe for wide-angle lenses?
Thanks, John.
I had considered it, but it's more bucks than I want to spend; plus, I am currently using a 5x loupe, so 6x would be but a small step in the right direction.
Re: Loupe for wide-angle lenses?
Ari,
I have a Silvestri loupe FS, as new. PM me if interested.
You'll find it in the Classifieds, going back a couple of months. Search should find it.

Hi Leigh,
I very much appreciate it, but, as the patron said to the soda jerk during Prohibition, I am looking for something stronger.
Many thanks again.
