Thank you for posting this,
it is the first I have ever read about this auction.
Allen, you are surely welcome. I posted the auction, because I share in Kim and Gina's efforts to encourage and support young photographers. I was fortunate to have such encouragement at a similar age.
Funny how the linked page mentions everything except the city where this is being held...
I noticed that is a tendency of most photographers' websites nowadays as well... everyone wants to advertise themselves as the next big shot in photography but then forget to put contact info or even just the area they intend to cover the most...
I believe the link shows street and city; Carmel, California
As well as an website, email address and telephone number.
sorry, had no idea Carmel was a place name... I thought it was a person's name... I go hide in the corner now
yep i saw the phone and email but the address sounded like it could have been pretty much in evert US major city, and got me confused... i apologize
Merg,
I have thoroughly enjoyed the image you donated.
Just beautiful.
Francesco, no need to apologize. I understand completely. Carmel is on Monterey Bay,perhaps 100 or so miles south of San Francisco.
"Student photographers using digital capture and/or digitally printed photographs are excluded from the scholarship competition."
Welcome to the 19th Century.
Bill, that is correct. This is an effort to help young photographers, and the guidelines are set by the sponsor. There is a tremendous amount of traditional photography being done by young people, and the encouragement afforded by Kim and Gina is wonderful. If you take a look at the past entrants, you should observe a very high level of creativity and originality.
Domenico, your comments mean a lot, thank you. I have a habit of exhibiting my most recent work, always a risky proposition!
I know that you have an appreciation for helping younger photographers, from a project that you mentioned a year or two ago. I hope that it came to fruition.
I trust that you are busy with new work, also.
Thanks again,
Merg
Great program and not that it matters but i thought it was kind of ironic that the kids can't submit digital work but a number of the photographs being auctioned are digital prints. Wonder what the kids have to say about that. :)
Merg,
Great image you have in there!
This is a great cause and I hope it raises a lot of money for the young photographers.
Eric
great stuff! i think it is a great idea to keep it to traditional entries....there is an over abundance of digital stuff readily available. it is nice to see some other areas.
this shot is one of the best pictures i have ever seen of bagan! i have spend many many months in myanmar. i have a lot of awesome shots of bagan....but this one is very unique. i think i will have to bid on it!
thanks for the link.
