Re: 5x7 Deardorff repair?
I know Ken Hough has stopped repairing Deardorff, but you can email him and get some advices from him. He is very friendly and nice.

If you want your camera back in a reasonable amount of time, don't bother.
Richard Ritter is the premier option. He knows what he is doing and he gets it done you can get you and your camera back in the game as soon as possible.
Double box it with padding to ensure its safe delivery.

Re: 5x7 Deardorff repair?
Ken was nice on the phone and I appreciated his willingness to make suggestions.
It's a fairly minor issue, just some play on one side where the front standard meets the bed. Ken advised jamming a small screwdriver between the metal surfaces to act as a fulcrum and then gently tapping the metal lip where there was looseness to tighten it back up, said that's what they did at the factory. I did it, and it helped some, I fixed it the rest of the way temporarily by sticking 4 layers of white artists tape in the horizontal gap between the wood surfaces to act a shim...
anyone have suggestions on a more permanent shim material? Ken mentioned rubber cement I think, but the gap that needs filling is too slim (prob 1/32 inch) to use wood I think. Also hesitant to permanently make a mod to the camera, which is otherwise a beauty.

I'd use wood or delrin. That's just my two cents.

Ya know what might work in there??? One or two layers of Dymo label tape... It is removable, but durable in place... I have seen it specified many times as a spacer material, even in a Leica repair manual...
If you still have issues with it, I'm in Pasadena at work, and you can bring it by... PM me...
Good luck!!!

Thanks Steve, just seeing I never responded to this. I ended up just leaving the artist's tape in there, seemed to hold up fine so far.
