Looking Glass Magazine
Looking Glass Magazine publishes cutting edge photography by contemporary film photographers, and exceptional writing about the craft we love.
June/July, 2014: Domenico Foschi, Austin Granger, Robert Langham III, Andrew Sanderson, Scott Stillman, Amanda Tomlin
Behold the launching of Looking Glass Magazine, a publication featuring the many faces of film photography. We’ll bring you work both traditional and controversial, innovative and touching, bold and inventive, and yet always inspiring and provocative. You’ll find work by artists who are well known alongside those whose names are unfamiliar (with links to see more of their work) in addition to regular features such as letters to the editor, and the ever-popular Tales from the Lens. Best of all, a one year subscription will set you back just $19.95. Or, if you prefer, purchase individual issues for $3.50 each. When you subscribe, your money helps pay the artists who make up each issue of Looking Glass. We’re looking forward to a long future of bringing you new work in this very old medium, made fresh again and again by generations of photographic artists.
Editor in Chief: Amanda Tomlin
Publisher: Laura Campbell

Re: Looking Glass Magazine
Laura and Amanda, have been working on this idea for a while and I am so glad that is finally up and done. I look forward to see what will happen next. I know that Laura has been really been working hard to make this e-zine the best she can. Lord knows the number of e-mails and calls we have had. I wish both Laura and Amanda the best of luck in this venture and the rest of their project, there will be more to come. So, get you copies, she has some real surprises for future issues. Oh and I am in.

Re: Looking Glass Magazine
Jan and I exchanged quite a few emails and calls while I was creating the inaugural issue of Looking Glass. He has been an enormous help, and I'm very grateful. Thank you, Jan!
We have some exciting features planned for future issues. You'll probably hear about it on Facebook, since I'm usually not able to keep surprises secret for too long.
Mule-time!

Downloaded the first copy open because I couldn't work out how to subscribe. Best $3.50 I've spent in ages. All power to Laura and Amanda.

Thank you for your support Shane! I'm sorry to hear that you couldn't work out how to subscribe. A friend reported a similar problem. Thank you for letting me know. (I'll put a note up on our website.) If you wish to change your subscription to one-year, just drop me a line, and I'll comp you a 7th issue. Here's the direct link to both subscription options. (One-year and single issues.) http://www.joomag.com/en/newsstand/l...3976383?ref=ib

Re: Looking Glass Magazine
Bought the 1st issue, and am very impressed. A very well-done publication that allows the text and images to dominate.
I've for long admired Foschi's work in large format. His newer style is also very good.
Though published in 2002, Sanderson's book "Night Photography" is still a valuable resource & inspiration. Glad to see his work featured in your magazine.
-
Re: Looking Glass Magazine
I think it's more that I'm a idiot than your site. There is a big button that says subscribe that I didn't see.

Thank you for purchasing our first issue, Doug. I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed it. I love Foschi's Women portfolio. His Los Angeles portfolio (on his web site) is equally great.
Sanderson's night work is some of the best I've seen. He's so very talented.
We have a really nice surprise planned for the next issue. I can't wait to publish it so it can be shared with everyone.
Best,
Laura

I actually missed that big subscribe button, the first time myself. Thank you for pointing it out. I added a note to the website just in case.

Re: Looking Glass Magazine
I had some trouble subscribing with my iPad because some of the pages where cut off on the right had side. But with a little perseverance I was able to subscribe. I have only glanced at the first issue but so far I'm very impressed. I'll have time this weekend to sit down and really enjoy it.

Hi Roger! Thank you so much for subscribing! Just a heads up... the best viewing environment (for now) is a laptop or desktop computer. I'm waiting on an app update for iOS, which is due to be released in about a month. Some of the features, such as html popup, and videos, may not function properly when viewed on mobile iOS, such as the iPad. That issue will be resolved when the app is released. I'm anxious to view it on my iPad too.
Thanks again -- LC

Re: Looking Glass Magazine
There has been a tiny bit of confusion about creating an account to purchase our magazine. A Facebook or Twitter account isn't needed.
Kiosk Instructions
1. To purchase one-year subscriptions and single issues of Looking Glass Magazine, please visit our zine kiosk. You will be asked to create a user account. Click on the “create account” tab. The form fields will ask for your name, and email address. You will also create a password for your account. When you’ve filled in the fields, select “create account.”
2. You will arrive at the secure shopping cart where you can make your purchase. Once you’ve made your purchase, the zine viewer will open enabling you to read the full version of our magazine.
3. You will receive an order confirmation, payment receipt, and a request to activate your account via email. (Action required.)
4. When your account is activated, each issue you purchase will be saved in your Joomag account. If you have purchased a one-year subscription, new issues will be added automatically.

Re: Looking Glass Magazine
Hi Laura, is there only an electronic version? Thank you.
-
Re: Looking Glass Magazine
For now, yes. I haven't the funds to currently finance a printed issue. We hope to offer a printed option during our second year. (It's one of our goals.) Our advisors have recommended that we wait. Hope that helps.

I believe it is possible print a copy for later viewing if it is legal to do so.
-
Re: Looking Glass Magazine
It is in pdf format, and it is printable ( I printed a couple of pages for testing).
Great idea if you have a good printer, and a perfect answer to those who complain about not having a print version available.
-
Re: Looking Glass Magazine
Yes, it's printable, and it's fine with us if you print out a copy. We're currently mapping out issues 2 and 3, and will be sharing some pretty amazing work with you in those issues. I'd tell you who it is, but Amanda has reminded me that she has a video of me (singing and dancing) in a safety deposit box. Thanks for your comments!

That's excellent. I'll subscribe then. Give me a sec...

Thank you for subscribing, Doug. I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed the first issue.
The next issue of LG has quite a bit of abstract work. (Our featured photographer studied with Minor White.) I'm looking forward to sharing that work with our readers.

Thanks so much for subscribing, Luc! I'm glad that you found the registration simple. I don't care for Facebook either, and I'm looking forward to the day that I can back away from it. :D

Hi Andrew! Did you receive a confirmation email when you subscribed? If so, then there is a separate email to validate your account. Once you do that, sign into your account (using your email and the password that you created). In your account there should be a tab that says something along the lines of "my magazines" or "my library." Your LG zine issues will be automatically uploaded there. If you have any problems accessing your account don't hesitate to contact me again. Hope this helps. -- LC

Re: Looking Glass Magazine
The most riveting street photography is work that enables us to envision ourselves walking into the frame. I'm delighted to announce that Tobi Wilkinson is a featured artist in the next issue of Looking Glass Magazine. Based in Sydney, Tobi was the official photographer on the 2009 Australian tour of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
