Cambo case
I wonder if anyone has any great ideas for a Cambo carrying case. Mine came with a gigantic box that works, but it greatly oversized. I've been looking for the perfect, snug container, and think I know what it might be, but haven't found it. I think I'm wanting something like a suitcase, just big enough for the camera to sit on its side, collapsed in the middle of the rail. That would space ahead and behind of the lens and backfor accessories. I think the interior would need to be about 21"+ wide, around 16" front-to-back, and 11" high more or less.
I saw a rig on Ebay today that's very similar to what I envisioned, but I haven't seen this particular case before. It's this: Cambo in case. This is the right idea, but it looks like the camera has a short rail. Mine's 21".
Does anyone know of a easily obtained ready-made case, not necessarily Cambo or even camera, that would fit the description?

Re: Cambo case
m, I have an official Cambo case and you're right, its enormous. The one you gave a link for seems pretty big too. The only more compact alternative I know is a suitcase slightly longer than the rail and somewhat higher than a standard. Remove the camera's bellows, rotate the standards 90 degrees so they and the rail are in the same plane and then, unless you have a great long rail, they'll take up little space and will leave room for accessories etc. Take off the tripod mounting block while you're at it.

Re: Cambo case
I use Mycasebuilder.com for foam inserts, they have cases of any size you want also. or you could build a case, then have them cut the foam.

Re: Cambo case
Yes, the Calumet N case weighs as much or more than the camera, and takes up a sizable part of my car trunk. At least all of the other needed parts will fit (lenses, holders, cloth, etc, etc) in the odd spaces.

Re: Cambo case
Mycasebuilder.....great start. Thanks! I bet there is a place that would make a custom box, too.

Re: Cambo case
Have not found a case builder, the older I get the smaller and lighter I want. Years ago a guy near me would do a rifle case to your specs. Holy cow they were heavy!!

Re: Cambo case
I'm liking Dan's idea of folding the thing, and am discovering lots of cool vintage suitcases exist. Maybe I will check a thrift store!

Re: Cambo case
Michael, it isn't an idea, it is how Charlie Barringer kept and transported the SC-1 he gave me.

Re: Cambo case
I have a box which was made specially for my camera. But it is a monster 8x10. The case has four handles at the back and it is possible to establish them to the frame from the rucksack. Inside under the camera is a place for holders and other knick-knacks.

Re: Cambo case
Jedrzej66 - What are the dimensions of the case you have? That looks like a perfect case...I have a Cambo SC 8x10 and I've been trying to figure out a good transport case...how much did it set you back and where did you buy it from? :)
