Post your (intimate) woodland scenes
Hi!
I think it would be appropriate to dedicate a thread about intimate woodland scenes... a subject very dear to me. There are already some general threads about landscapes photos or trees--I really like them but they are quite general and humongous.
I'll start with one scene in Acadia National Park, shot on 4x5 Kodak Ektar 100.

I had to visit this location several times to get the shot. If you're interested on the story behind this photograph, and want too see some more details of the scan, here is a video about it.

This image is in the Madawaska Region of Ontario , mid January. I have only photographed landscapes seriously in this region and Muskoka.

Ferns and Oxalis
Humbug Mountain State Park, OR
8x10, carbon print
Most of my work seems to be more middle-distance.

Great idea for a thread and great work from all y'all, but I find myself really curious about Denny's approach, since "sifting" all the shades of green here in the temperate rainforest of the Smokies is such a challenge.
Re: Post your (intimate) woodland scenes
That's a good question. I've printed this image in silver and in platinum, and used different approaches for each. I think 90% of the tonality was just from the natural light in the original scene. For the silver print, I utilized burning, dodging, and bleaching (and almost had a very bad cyanide experience during the bleaching.) For the platinum print, I scanned the neg, and had some photoshop help to manage the tones. Ultimately, the silver print and the platinum print are very very close to each other.

Excellent, even on my laptop it seemed clear that a lot of stars were aligning for you--I think this is one of those photos that will be both inspirational and aspirational for me.
