Shooting in Arizona next weekend
Right - the wife has given me three days away from the family constraints to seflishly go and shoot next weekend. I need to make the most of it...
I am intending on heading to Arizona and was hoping that you fellow large formaters can provide me with some essential shots I need to get. I have a 4x5 Horseman rail camera so I am not that mobile...I am ideally after where to go, what time of day I need to be there, lens and filter suggestions. Anything that will enable me to cram a years worth of darkroom time from one weekend.
Any suggestions?
Simon

Get this book any way you can! It is crammed full of wonderful photographs, from which you can choose what you want to go after. It also rates all locations in order of photographic interest.

How come I never see "Shooting in New Jersey next weekend?"
Grin.
Remember it's not quantity but quality.

Arizona is a big place. What part are you planning on going to.
Up north you have the Monument Valley area, Canyon De Chelly, The Vermillion Cliffs at Lee's Ferry and even the Grand Canyon. Central has the Sedona/Oak Creek Canyon area, Verde Valley, West Clear Creek. In the central east there is the area south of Alpine which is at around 10.000 ft and is mostly Blue Spruce forrests and alpine meadows. Probably under snow this time of year. Going on down south thers is the Salt reiver canyon area, the Superstitious mountains. Then if you go south of Tuscon there is all kinds of places. You need to be more specific on an area.

If you look at my website in the "Arizona" gallery you can get some clues.

Funny you should say that.
I went out shooting last weekend in the Pine Barrens. She who must be humored came along to make sure I didn't do anything too dumb. Neither fact is particularly new and nearly anywhere can be wonderful.

Batstoe Village, a great place to photograph in New Jersey. I learned of it from Jim Rhoades a few years ago and I go there every time I visit relatives in Moorestown. There's a couple photographs from there in the "Architecture" section on my web site.

One of the advantages of being single, is that I don't have to ask anyone if I want to go somewhere. :D
