Terrific, Sergei!
Mathieu, those are fun!

Re: 2017 Portraits: September
Sergei, great portrait and good to see your work more regularly.
Matthieu, also great images and I like the incorporation of architectural features in the portraits.

Re: 2017 Portraits: September
Sergei,
Wonderful. I hope the autologous stem cell transplant is working as well as can be hoped for!

Thanks, guys. Yeah, she is doing quite well. Some issues still remain of course, but we are grateful for what we got - progression seems to be stopped and bunch of stuff reverted. She is going for 2nd year checkup in October. Unfortunately I can't come this time - changed job in may and things are weird slightly.

Re: 2017 Portraits: September
Some really strong images so far this month! Really enjoyed each image so far.
Here's a shot of my wife from yesterday, inspired by a John Singer Sargent portrait (although its not a strict homage.)

This was one of only two frames I shot with the hot lights instead of strobes, HP5+ rated at 800, 210mm Nikkor @5.6.

Do portraits need to be of people? I'm weening myself off Lightroom. I've been using Linux since kernel 1.3.0.4. Image editing has come a long way. I just learned how to tame the highlights with DarkTable. Still a little hot on the hightlights but the challenge was trying to shoot this fatbutt before she got up and got comfy somewhere else. Kinda hard to do in a crowded apartment but I finally got a shot!

Those are rather nicely drawn. What lens were you trying out?

Not familiar with this lens, so a quick google search yields a $8,999.00 lens on ebay. ZOINKS!!
-
Re: 2017 Portraits: September
The reality is they (Xenotar 150/2.8) are more like $700-1000 in barrel, and maybe $1200-2500 in shutter. Nice shots too with them, btw! (optimum aperture for this lens is f/4 according to schneider)

Thanks. Interesting about the optimum aperture. These were wide open, I don't yet have the proper aperture scale for the lens so I don't know where f4 is yet!

Re: 2017 Portraits: September
do you have it in shutter? If so, just label 2.8 at the top aperture, and the rest should be about right going down from there, a stop at a time.
-
Re: 2017 Portraits: September
Yes it's in a compur shutter but obviously from another lens the scale starts from f8.6

Re: 2017 Portraits: September
spacing of stops should be the same, easy to just relabel. I have one of mine in a Compur 2, from a symmar, I think it starts at 5.6, but I just mentally revise to be appropriate.
