Re: What did you compose at Waters Edge?
Try this: Head southwest on 285 and, a bit past Conifer, turn onto South Foxton Road (may be a sign for the Reynolds Open Space Park). It will take you down to the river, turn right when you get there. There could be a problem with parking in some places, due to private property. But as you drive upriver you will see the Cathedral Spires. At the base of them is a large parking area used by climbers - on Google it says "Cathedral Spires Park Trailhead." You could park there and then just wander along the road. Be careful of cars going faster than they should be! There are some other smaller pullouts here and there. I haven't been there in five years or so, so I forget any more details.
As with anywhere, after Labor Day will be less busy, not to mention cooler!

Photo taken with an Ebony 8x10 using a Nikkor 450M on Provia film.

Great shot Jim! Very serene, especially for a place that sees some extreme weather. My guess is that the photo was taken in July at a high elevation.

Thad, right on both accounts, Beartooth Mountains in July. I have been there many times but this was one of the very few times it was so calm.

California desert in or near the Mojave Desert:
I can't imagine going down for water especially with a horse. I guess the best trail etiquette in those days was to travel in the canyon when presented.

Re: What did you compose at Waters Edge?
After a long hiatus, I've recently gotten set up to make contact prints in my tiny bathroom. So I am going nuts printing old negatives. This one is from the summer of 2012, made along the Yuba River in the Sierra Nevada.
The 5x7 negative was made with a Deardorff camera that I will forever regret having sold. I have no record of the lens. The film was 360 TX, probably developed in D76, which is what I was using in them bygone days.
