jobo atl2: is a hot water connection mandatory
Hello,
I bought an atl2 plus, and only intend to use it for black and white,
the water temperature is around 16 degrees here,
if I preheat the chemicals in a jobo tbe, and give the water bath enough
time to heat, is a hot water connection (with a thermostat) mandatory?
Hoping somebody can help me out!
regards
stefan
Re: jobo atl2: is a hot water connection mandatory
Stefan,
As far as I know the ATL2 has a heat exchanging water solenoid.
That will pre heat the water before doing the rinse.
Has read some manuals now, It seems that the ATL2 does NOT have a heat exchange.
The chemicals will be heated in the ATL2 itself, there is a heater in the machine.
And doing black and white there is only 4 degrees ( I assume you are developing at 20 degrees celcius) difference between chemicals and rinse and that should not be an issue.
Otherwise fill the remaining chemical bottles with plain water and use that instead of a rinse. The water will than be preheated just as the other chemicals.
What kind of drums are you using in the ATL ??

Mike

Hi Mike,
you're not the mike that just bought a B&L 360mm at hans' store, aren't you?
About the atl, I'm a novice with these machines. What water supplies have to be connected to operate in the way you suggest? The chemicals are preheated by the water bath, aren' they? The manual sais the incoming water has to be the process temperature with a variation of 1 degree, or the machine will stop,

I own and have owned the ATL2 Plus and the ATL3 - I have NEVER experienced that the processor would stop when the incoming water is not within 1 degree of the heated chems! The suggestion to use the bottles in the ATL for rinsing won't work either because you need (most likely) more water for rinsing than the bottles will hold
Re: jobo atl2: is a hot water connection mandatory
Hi Stefan,
Yes, I am the one who bought your 8x10 B&J, Berlebach tripod and the B&L 360mm :) :) :)
I also just started with an ATL3 (big beast), at the moment I cleaned everything and putting it back together.
In the ATL3 there are 2 water inlets, one for the water bath and one for rinse water.
The water bath is cold water, the internal heater will heat until operationg temperature.
The rinse water is set externally (by a heater and thermostatic valve) to the correct temperature.
I think that should also work with an ATL2plus.
Otherwise connect the machine and do a test run without negatives. Just an empty tank.
If it is doing a complete run, you probably do not need an external heater.
Only for color and slides you need a high (38 degrees celcius) water temperature.

To my knowing this is correct.
Be aware that if the temperature between the different baths differs to much the emulsion will crack. Some films more than others, maybe you will get away with it. The lower the temperature the longer the rinsing has to be.

thanks guys, I'll start experimenting and I'll let you know what the outcome is

Re: jobo atl2: is a hot water connection mandatory
Too bad,
I get a error 3 with a beep,
which means there is a problem with the air pump or the
electronics,
The seller is taking the machine back. I hate it when
I assume something works and it doesn;t!

Re: jobo atl2: is a hot water connection mandatory
Not so fast Stefan, the error 3 could be as a result of a minor problem. The bottles need to be checked for leaks or cracks around the necks. Also You need to check that the grommets where the hoses go into the processor have no cracks and are not dried out, sometimes a little Vaseline or lithium grease around these grommets will serve to seal them properly so that the error 3 goes away. These are more common than the stated problems that you suppose.
You need to read the manual throughly for the machine. If you do not have the owners manual I can send you one via a PDF. Contact me through the www.omegasatter.com website. I'll be back at work tomorrow. If you are here in the US I can give you the parts numbers for the grommets and pricing for the replacements.

I'm not in the US but I do have a bottle in my ATL-2+ that needs a new grommet so I would appreciate details of replacements.
