Have you had to pay hefty customs fees when buying from Japan?
I prefer not to buy from outside the USA, but it seems I cannot find a decent Super Ikonta 531/2 in this country, so I've identified one offered by a seller in Japan. As the title of this post asks, I wonder - since I know some of you have experience with this - whether you've had to pay hefty customs fees for equipment bought from Japan?

In the UK you pay 20% Vat plus customs handling fees on Japanese purchases, above some threshold value which i haven't yet identified !

Many purchases over the past 15-20 years, so far have never had any customs fees imposed.

Never had to pay anything. I prefer to buy from Japan. I lived there for six years and was really impressed with how careful people are with their equipment. No rough treatment.

Check the US Customs tables, but I believe you’ll find “used photographic” gear shipped in from either the UK, EU or Japan are not subject to US Customs duty (and I’ve never paid any from MANY purchases).

And furthermore, the US exempts from any customs duty all shipments of less than $800 value, no mater where from.
