NuArc Lens and Shutter: Possible manufacturers?
My favorite vintage/junk store was getting ready to scrap out a NuArc copy camera after being unable to sell it for several years, so I talked them out of the lens and shutter.
Yes, I wanted the entire thing but no room left at the Inn!
I have seen various postings here and on other sites that the 8 1/4 (212mm EFL) f8 lens is capable of covering 8x10, so I hope to try it on my Calumet C1 eventually. I have seen other examples with Ilex branding, but this lens simply has "8 1/4" NuArc" on the aperture plate and engraved on the lens. It's not pristine, some cleaning marks and a bit of haze, but it was cheap. It looks fairly modern; any guesses as to who made it?
I also grabbed the electric solenoid operated shutter. Almost sure it has to be a Packard variant; does anyone know if Packard made these for NuArc? Still pondering how to convert the lever-based movement to a bulb or maybe replace it with a DC solenoid. How about an Ardino-powered, electronic shutter with selectable shutter speeds? ;)
Scheming to reunite them on the C1 but it will take some skullduggery and hacksaws to make it happen.

Rodenstock made many of the nuArc branded lenses.

Thank you. I can say with certainty the lens is a Plasmat, as I took it apart to try to clean the light haze; it only helped marginally.
Re: NuArc Lens and Shutter: Possible manufacturers?
It certainly looks like a purpose-built Packard Shutter.
They are still in business, maybe they could confirm?
Re: NuArc Lens and Shutter: Possible manufacturers?
I totally forgot they are still in business. I will do that!
Re: NuArc Lens and Shutter: Possible manufacturers?
Well, Jon Gilchrist of Packard says, "...There are no good records of all the 3rd party buyers of Packard shutters. The lever on the left side is similar to some that I have found in boxes of old parts but I have no documentation of them. The blades and the housing look like Packard."
So it's a definite maybe...
Re: NuArc Lens and Shutter: Possible manufacturers?
I would imagine that nuArc itself is no longer in business- but maybe not. I'm sure that they made other graphics products besides process cameras.
Re: NuArc Lens and Shutter: Possible manufacturers?
nuArc is part of the M&R companies and are still around, or were last I checked…
For those in alternative print processes, they did plate burners i.e. high output UV sources for Pd/Pt, gum dichromate, etc.
