Giant Museum Boards

I recall seeing postings about where to get large mat boards, which IMHO were never answered satisfactorily. After having visited Clyde Butcher's Cypress Gallery and seen the large museum boards he uses, I sent them an email to enquire, in which I received this response:

60"x104 " mat board is my kind of size! I hope this helps those looking for large sizes. Now all I need is more wall space.

How does one cut a 60x104 mat???

Jack, Fletcher makes one. It is 4... 30" sections that go together. There is one on ebay if you want to check it out.

LOL! No, I use the Speed-Mat 4060 which can handle a 40x60 mat and cuts all four sides without moving the board. I was just curious as to how one accurately cut a 60x102 sheet!

It's done every day Jack. I'd say within + or - .010. in length and width and without a single overcut on the window mat too. You always place the larger of the two mats on the top. Once it's in a frame no one will notice even a 1/16" difference in overall size. I mean how accurate do you really need . It's not a Rolex. The cheapo logan cutters cuts windows very accurately. Unless you're running production for a frame shop I can't seem to justify the costs for something like the 4060. That will buy a lot of film. I have seen high dollar museum pieces with overcuts on the window mat. It didn't lower the cost of that print one red cent. But to each their own.
