Nikon 9000 Scanner (via 1394 Firewire) Working on Windows 64bit
After much research and reflection, I bought a Nikon 9000 yesterday, brand new from Samy's camera in Los Angeles. It is tax free week, so I walked out the door wwith it for 2199.95 total. THE TAX FREE is for a another few days. The 1 unopened scanner they have is new, new stock.
There is one more in stock, brand new. There is also an old store demo in stock.
Nikon Scan 4.0.3 using Windows 64 bit vista did not identify the firewire based Nikon 9000.
I used this driver here and the scanner is perfectly working in Vista 64bit: http://www.earthboundlight.com/phototips/coolscan-vista-64.html
Additionally, I have a Nikon 5000 scanner via USB on same computer. It is working fine. I am not sure if it is working off the Vue Scan Hamrick driver I installed or the driver I installed for the Nikon 90000 using info in above link. Nevertheless, the 5000 is working off the Nikon Scan 4.0.3 perfectly as well.
Re: Nikon 9000 Scanner (via 1394 Firewire) Working on Windows 64bit
I upgraded to Windows 7 a few months back. When I went to use the 9000 scanner and the Nikon Scan software V4.02 -4.03 I get back the message "scanner not found". Apparently the Nikon Scan software is not compatible with with Windows 7.
Is this actually so and and are there any workarounds etc.? It's kind of a bummer as the scanner is only a year or so old.
Thanks

Nikon 'claims' it is compatible for the 32 bit version (but not 64 bit). Which version are you running?
Re: Nikon 9000 Scanner (via 1394 Firewire) Working on Windows 64bit
I got my 8000 working on Win7/64 using the instructions in this blog. I use Silverfast instead of the Nikon scan software, though.
Re: Nikon 9000 Scanner (via 1394 Firewire) Working on Windows 64bit
It worked fine for me on Win7/64 with nothing but that hacked INF file in addition to the latest installer from Nikon.
Re: Nikon 9000 Scanner (via 1394 Firewire) Working on Windows 64bit
I'm running Win 7 64 bit.
Jim, I had a brief look at you blog, it looks interesting and as soon as I get back this evening I will try it and report.
By the way, I called Nikon tech help and they told me it was not supported and suggested VueScan.
Re: Nikon 9000 Scanner (via 1394 Firewire) Working on Windows 64bit
I've been using an 8000 with a Vista64 and now Win7 64 machine for a couple of years. Vuescan was the answer for me and I'm very happy with it.
Re: Nikon 9000 Scanner (via 1394 Firewire) Working on Windows 64bit
Thanks for the updates. I'll be moving to Win 7 64 in a few months, too, and I want my CS 9000 to work.
Re: Nikon 9000 Scanner (via 1394 Firewire) Working on Windows 64bit
I kept checking the Nikon web site about Nikon Scan for Intel-Macs, and just gave up on Nikon and bought Silverfast when I replaced my PPC mac with an Intel one. No problems with Silverfast since then. They even gave me a good package deal for CS 9000 and Microtek M1 versions, so I have the same software for my two scanners. Not cheap, but probably worth it in the long run.
Re: Nikon 9000 Scanner (via 1394 Firewire) Working on Windows 64bit
I ended up buying VueScan and I was able to get some work out relatively quickly. It recognized the scanner immediately and on the whole the program was fairly intuitive. I scanned 25 negs & slides (120 & 35mm) with minimal headaches though I'm sure I just scratched the surface of the program capabilities.
I then tried the workaround from the blog mentioned in Jim's post and I got as far as clicking "Update Driver Software" when the computer responded by saying basically that I already had an functioning driver. I'm guessing it is now referring to the scanner driver in VueScan?
