Getting film processed in LA area
Hi everybody,
I am currently on my trip in the US. In two weeks or so I will be arriving in Los Angeles, before my final departure back to Europe. I decided to leave my LF gear back at home, and am mainly shooting MF with my hassy. Anyway - with the huge amount of film going through I think of developping the stuff before getting on the plane.
That's why I wanted to ask you about a decent lab, where I can get my film processed in LA. It's print film (namely portra 400nc, and fuji pro 400h). I've browsed on the internet, but all I got where pretty expensive pro labs (like 10-11$ per roll).
If anybody knows, and I am sure you folks do - please recommend me a lab, where I could do develop that stuff. I am talking about 50, maybe 60 rolls of film.
Thanks a lot,
Martin

Try A&I.
It's located in the Hollywood area and they good a good job.

Re: Getting film processed in LA area
A&I is as good as it gets. No scatches. Perfect dip and dunk development, but not cheap. Their mail order prices are cheaper than drop off prices and that still amounts to 15.00 a roll, with proof prints. It's probably cheaper without prints, I'm sure. If anyone has contact info for Samy's Camera in L.A., I'm sure they could make some recommendations. There has to be someone who would develop only for 5.00 a roll or less.

Pro Photo Connection down in Orange County (southwest of L.A.) will process 120 C-41 at $3.50 per roll:

I have not had C-41 processed there so I cannot speak to their quality (if I recall correctly they don't do C-41 dip-and-dunk). Their E-6 processing is OK.

For color stuff, try Colortek in Culver City. I believe they're on Jefferson Blvd, east of Overland.
Re: Getting film processed in LA area
I've had great results with A&I in Hollywood. It's $8 bucks a roll to process. How long will you be in Los Angeles? Just a heads up, A&I doesn't process E-6 over the weekends (at least this is my own experience with them. You may be able to call in advance and see if you could work something out).
Re: Getting film processed in LA area
I will only be doing C41 anyway :) besides that, can you recommend an LA bookstore that runs photo books?
Re: Getting film processed in LA area
I know this is way after the OP but I have found Icon Lab (iconla.com) to be preferable to A&I. Same services with slightly better prices.
