I have a Wollensak Graphic Raptar 3" (74mm) F4.5 which is quite a nice lens, no complaints, but I don't know anything about them or their intended application.

What's special or different about the 'Graphic' versions? Any resources or references that I can look at to find out?

I have a few old flanges laying around that fit nothing, and a (good) few lenses lacking flanges; and my guess is that quite a few members could say the same. It would be great if we could set up an exchange, where I could trade my useless flanges for your useless flanges. I thought about establishing that as a thread here, or possibly in the For Sale section, but realized it would be difficult to keep up to date because you cannot update old posts. Ideally it should be a user-editable table, so when things are traded they can be removed, but I'm not a computer guy and don't really know if that is possible on the forum or if you would need another website.

Also, we would need a protocol for measuring, and participants would need a thread gauge and calipers.

What think ye?

I have no problems with SK Grimes other than they are extremely back logged and it's 5-6 weeks to get anything done. Are there any alternatives to Grimes for lens flanges? I have a Darlot 13" Petzval without the flange which would have roughly a 4 inch thread diameter. Seems like all the repair shops are about the same backlog. Is there that much work or have they cut staff to the point they can't meet demand?
Thanks!

Hi,

I'm wondering if I could ask one of the fine LF members to compare two lens DOFs for me. I have no calculator now coz I bought a new computer with Win7. I used to use the Bob Atkins calculator on Win XP.

One would be a Xenotar 150mm @ f2.8 and the other would be a Xenar 178mm f3.5. Assuming the same head-and-shoulders shot on 4x5 film.

Otherwise, I wonder if there is another calculator for Win7 of the same capability as the older Bob Atkins one ?

Cheers,

Steve

It came in a stylish leatherette pouch, rather than the customary square clamshell case. BTW, the filter was EXPENSIVE - consider it a once in a lifetime purchase - knock on wood.

Question may be Bob, don't you think the square plastic case offers more protection than the leatherette pouch? I am missing something. Not a big issue just thought I'd ask.

I am aware of the warning to use any filter but B&W EW on this lens as the glass somewhat protrudes. I would like to screw on a Lee 67 mm wide angle adapter ring and use the Lee slotted wide angle hood with it. Mai I do so without having to fear that the ring might touch (and scratch) the glass surface near the rim. Can anyone tell me for sure?

Hello,

have this glass of Rodenstock on a Technika III 4x5 in use; came in Copal 1.
Since it was the first lens to this camera, I was wondered on the
"Difficulties" when adjusting the image. For a reasonably sharp
Image I had to stop down to at least 1:8, and then it was only in the middle
sharp.
I thought it might have been a typical 4x5 issue (poor focusing screen?), since I have no experience with 4x5.

In meantime, I own a Super-Angulon 90mm 1:8. And now I realize, focusing
the image is no problem. Sharp image at open aperture into the corners.

Shots with both lenses reflect that again:
From Super-Angulon everything as expected, from Rodenstock blatant edge blur,
and that at f 32.

So something must be wrong with this lens.

Question - who could safely conclude (only Rodenstock?)
- can such a glass be ever decentered / be centered?
- can be interchanged the hind limb (I had at least expected a lens number as on front element, but can not find)?
- Under the front element is a thin intermediate ring / washer. Can it be that maybe more belong there, that have been lost?

Maybe one of you has experience in this regard,
any response I am pleased.

Kind regards,
Horst.

My Eastman No 2 (5x7) has a modified front standard.

My Eastman No 2 (5x7) has a modified front standard.
The hardware for securing the 4 1/2 inch square regular lens board has been removed
and replaced with a large brass plate below the level of the regular lens board.
There is a hole in the plate that that I believe was use for air release tubing to an internal Packard shutter.
See photos.

If so : What size Packard shutter ?

I like the idea of having an internal shutter and being able to use barrel lenses.
The rear cells of my present lenses do not penetrate very far into the bellows chamber.
Ektar f 7.7 203mm and CZ Tessar 13.5cm f 4.5 , both have shutters.

As you can see, I have mounted my lenses on very large lens boards and have used the lip/trough of the brass plate to hold the bottom of the new lens board. The top of the lens board is secured by the piece of brass that stabilized the top of the front standard.

I have not found a small hole that could have been use for the "pin" that some Packard shutter have for the "1/25" second speed.
I assume the shutter was for Time exposures only.

Are my assumptions even close to being correct or do I not have a clue ?

Thanks
