This is why I designed the 8x10 field plate camera; for BIG lenses. The cameras are specifically designed for shooting plate photography such as wet plate collodion, and daguerreotypes.
The lens is an 1864 C.C. Harrison that weighs over 6 pounds and is about 8" tall and 5.5" diameter at the flange.
I designed this as a modern version of plate camera that can handle heavy lenses as well as the glass plates and plate holder on the rear.
