I had my light meter in my pocket this morning and bent down and broke the light receiving part.
I'm now left with two disconnected wires. See the pic. One is beige and I'm pretty sure this should connect to the soldered bit you can see in the centre of the frame.
The other wire is brown and disappears behind the brown film that lines the inside. Maybe it's a ground? It may on next tithe same points I can't see another piece of solder that's missing a wire.
Any ideas? The meter is a Sekonic L 328

Hi.

Seems like i need to get a bag for my upcoming 8x10 KMV. These 2 bags are on my list.
F.64 is much cheaper than the PB P1. I can get the F.64 brand new at $175-$210.
The PB P1 is likely about $250 with a few accesories.

Now, the problem is the budget.
So, i'm looking for a used one.. Anyone have these bags that are gathering dusts? :)

Anyway, would these bags Airlines friendly? Anyone had used these for travels?
I saw the F.64 BPX on youtube it's looks big on Fred Newman video and it looks a bit bulky than the PB P1.
So, i'm still undecided which one. My budget wants the F.64 BPX but my taste likes the PB P1!

Help! :)

I have a Thinktank Retrospective 30, very pleased with it, BUT it developed a small problem at the strap: the stitch came loose on a length of about 2 cm, and I suppose it will go further; have a look at the picture:

<a href="http://www.largeformatphotography.info/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=94677&d=1367913630" title="Name: s_2013-05-01 08.05.20.jpg
I contacted the people at Thinktank USA (IIRC) last Wednesday (May 1st), on Friday 3th I received a mail from the local distributor in the Netherlands, and today, Tuesday May 7th, I received a brand new Retrospective 30 !

Note: I bought it from the Internet, not locally, and I can keep the defective bag !

That's what I call a great service !

Hi all,

I have a Really Right Stuff ballhead and bought their "Large Format" plate for it. Well, let's just say that if it comes with a 1/4" thread and requires an adaptor it's not "really right"... not for a Deardorff anyway. They now appear to have a new "Toyo" plate with a 3/8", that wasn't available at the time. Their "Wooden Field Camera" plate (read: Deardorff) still has (not one but two) 1/4" screws... I bought the only flat plate labelled for LF at the time.

Anyhow, I don't really want to drop $70 on an Arca/Kirk plate and have bought plenty of excellent quality plates for my small format cameras off Chinese eBay sellers for around $10. It's a piece of anodized aluminium after all, I don't need it to be Made in Switzerland :)

But I cannot find a flat, large plate with a 3/8" screw at a decent price. Any other cheapskates know where to acquire one?

Thank you and happy shooting.

Hi guys, I recently took a Cambo SCX 8x10 out on the streets for some portraits. I use a Manfrotto 028 Tripod which is pretty heavy duty, but the 029 head, or at least the adapter plate was totally inadequate for the weight and weight distribution of the cambo, so I don't have to wade through the entire Manfrotto catalogue is their either a plate of some kind which will fit on the 029 head to give ma larger contact area, or a recommended tripod head to use with the 028 tripod which will be sufficent for the weight and size of the cambo, I moved the tripod and camera at one point and the whole thing came crashing down

thanks

I want to be able to quickly focus on portions of the image on the ground glass without having to use a dark cloth. I've seen some folks using a focusing loupe that has a dark nozzle that they place up against the ground glass. Does this effectively eliminate enough ambient light to allow critical focusing to be achieved? This would make it a lot easier on hot days to quickly compose the image under the cloth, but then work on detailed focusing and movements with the loupe.

As my vision get worse with age, I've been mulling ways I can get sharp focus that don't depend on the sharpness of my own eyes. Autofocus is an obvious candidate, but just as obviously isn't an option in the LF world, or even much of an option in MF. (I don't know of anything bigger than 6x4.5cm that has autofocus. Am I overlooking something?)

A more traditional -- not to mention, cheaper -- approach would, of course, be zone focus. Which brings me to my question. What tools are there for getting accurate distance measurements?

A tape measure works over short distances, of course, and even over medium distances, depending on how big the tape measure is and whether or not you can get to the subject. My next thought was one of those rangefinders like golfers and shooters use. After looking into them a bit, though, I've been pretty disappointed with their precision. Some of the high-end models ($400+) have [claimed] precision almost down to the inch, but the rest usually don't claim anything more accurate that +/-3 feet.

That would be okay if you're working with sufficient DOF, but that's pretty limiting. What have you guys used to get accurate subject distances? Are there devices like this that are designed for photography? (Googling any combination of "rangefinder" and any photography term produces RF cameras, of course.)
