Hello,

Lately, i bought a Hermagis Aplanat lens with a stop #4.
I'll like to know which way it is supposed to be installed because there is a bevel on one side. Is this bevel going forward or toward the rear of the lens?

Regards!

The bevel should be facing forward or towards the subject.

Nope,
I have a few lenses laying around with an aparture wheel in it.
On all these lenses the bevel is towards the camera

Most of my wheel stops have the bevel pointing away from the camera.
A few have them the other way ( mostly "Frenchies" - Berthiot etc.

There is previous thread (3 years ago ?).

Thanks!

If it can help the number 4 on it is on the other side of the bevel but i found a cut away drawing of a Derogy Euryscope and the bevel is toward the camera.

maybe they should have bevels on both side than.....

Just wondering, would it really matter on which side it needs to be?
As long as the material is thin at the edge it wouldn't matter?

That's funny because every wheel stop lens I have is absolutely the other way around. like I said earlier the beveled side faces forward or towards your subject.

Just like this.

Yep weird. I have 2 large Hermagis lenses having it the other way around.
Bus as i said, wouldit really matter wich way it is pointing. As long the edge of the hole itself is very thin oit just does't make any difference.
They were not able to make waterhouse stops or wheel sthat thin otherwise it would be impossible to turn or use it without bending it.
Just a thought.

Thanks!

Here is the drawing from a Derogy lens i was talking about.
I also found some drawings for a single lens with the iris wheel being cut straight without bevel.
