A 14x20? That's a lot of camera to travel with...

Interesting. A 16x20 that's been shaved a little bit. He uses a lens that doesn't quite cover the format. I didn't see anything on his website about why he chose that aspect ratio. It's narrower than 16x20, and wider than the Golden Rectangle (12x20). Its ratio is between 6x4.5 and 35mm.
I am glad he has done it. Sure, that's a lot of camera gear to pack around (200 pounds total?) but nothing says "You are important to photogaph" like a huge camera like this.

A master platinum printer. Saw some of his work 2 years ago in Daytona, and the 14X20 format worked very well for the images.
Thanks for the link.

Thanks for the link! I hope there will be a book for us in the odd places of the earth far from NYC.

I wrote to him about his camera and its ratio. It's a Deardorff, and he had a discussion with Jack Deardorff about the ratio after Mr. Izu found that 16x20 and 11x14 were too square for a landscape with a horizon line. The 14x20 proportion is close to his favorite proportions of 35mm and 5x7. Mr. Izu writes that he has been happy with his decision ever since.
