A certain Dagor77 is at it again:

Rescued and Restored From a Living Tomb..... (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rescued-and-Restored-From-a-Living-Tomb-A-19-Goerz-Berlin-Dagor-No-Reserve-/400361018629?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5d37605505)

No I'm not pimping the auction, and besides this is sure to go for far more than I can afford. Would be nice to own one though.

What a prelude, though.

I'd buy a ticket to see that in movie form.

"...reaching over to a giant Sutton Panoramic Water lens he had converted into a decanter he poured himself a healthy dram."

Bwahahaha....almost spilt my beer.

A friend of mine recommended the lovely story to me yesterday.

My conclusion is that TYPING such a long story is a very tired work.

Nice story but not any good pictures, he must be a crook.

"I had grabbed the trunk of a jumper and held on for dear life"
I wonder if the girl in the jumper minded.

Bedtime reading for bidders who can't sleep because their eyes are too tired from a hard day under the cloth.

OMG, sadly Andrew beat me in finding Angus's tomb, I was near there with three other Old Phart Geologists in September. From Angus's photograph I recognized the canyon cliffs W of Scheelite (CaWO4), also the only town in California I know of that has a street named Vanadium. My gamy knee prevented me from exploring the cliffs. I never knew the intimate story of Angus Chick... Thank You Andrew!

Still found time for the snide comment directed at Zeiss.

you'll rarely see a Goerz lens with separation while you see most Carl Zeiss lenses with it. lens separation is a sign of badly fitted(rushed) glass

These comments just aren't true.

The part about rarely seeing a Goerz lens with separation is, I've yet to see one. Of course, one rarely sees any separated Zeiss lenses except for 110 year old Protars.

Well, at least we now know what Dagor77 is spending his money on (Scotch).

What else would a Scott drink, if not Scotch?

I happen to like Andrew's stories. Sometimes I have to send him a message and ask him if he is getting enough sleep, but otherwise I find the stories entertaining.

I really like Andrew and his stories. In fact he is listed as my only favorite ebay seller. I don't want to miss out on any of his famous tales!

I can't afford his lenses but I have bought several books from him.

The only way to improve the listing would be to convert it to rhymed iambic pentameter.

Some years ago he sold a 30 inch Dagor. I wish I could find the sales story he wrote for that; I'd also like to find the one about finding the mummified remains under a pile of Deardorff V8s and V11s.

His stories, as well as those of a recent imitator, confuse me. I get frustrated and stop reading.

I wouldn't mind them if I didn't have to struggle so much to find what is being sold and for how much. Often they are entertaining... which, obviously, I need to lighten up my otherwise 'too serious; get-to-the-point" personality. :)

In the specs for the lens on that add he states that the lens was sent to Europe and re polished on the original plates.Implying that some owns and knows how to use them.I wish he would tell us the rest of that story.

No. Lacking pictures doesn't identify a crook. You can tell the crooks because they always use the word "untested" in place of "totally trashed and completely unfixable".

haha that is probably true! What an introduction to a lens though, I'd like to share an ad I came across a week ago that competes with that one.

A Scot (not a Scott), would drink whisky.
