Matt knows more about early lenses, cases, and all daguerreian era hardware than anyone in the world. You should see the things he's acquired over the decades. Maybe now it will be easier to view.

I read somewhere (on-line) a similar article with some more emphasis on the effort it's going to take to catalog and curate. It will be many years before this will be on display somwhere :( ... but yes, to Garrett's point, this collection is "it" a true treasure historical treasure trove and you can only applaud Matt for keeping it all together.

The part that stood out in my mind was where he said "I don't think a collection like this could be recreated today." Probably true, he started collecting in 1956, when a lot of these items (including daguerreotype cameras he bought very cheap) were just considered old junk. He recognized quality Americana, and just kept buying it.
