I have my D4000 working with Windows, tested it with a demo copy of Silverfast.

Dilemma: which software to buy? Silverfast 6.6, or DPL? If I get DPL, should I get DPL Pro? This isn't about software cost, it's about which software will enable me to get the most out of the scanner.

Thoughts?

I scan for a living and I vote DPL.

But you should know there is a lot of disagreement here. You're asking a question that is an invitation to a little war... And remember, great scans are made by operators, not the equipment/software..

Hi Lenny,

Thanks for the thoughts - hmm, how do I phrase so that it doesn't start a flame war! I totally agree that the skill of the operator, nuances between interfaces, etc make a difference. Are we unable to say whether one software or the other is better able to take advantage of the hardware features of the scanner?

Actually, I found the mini-flame war on the Yahoo group. I guess what I needed to know was sort of answered here:

I own and use the standard version of DPL with the D4000. Quite happy.
