This summer George Eastman House, Fox Talbot Museum and Scully & Osterman team up to present three unique large format workshops at Fox Talbot museum, Lacock, England.

1839: Daguerreotype, Photogenic Drawing and Bayard’s Process June 25-29

Learn all three photographic processes introduced in the 1839; the mercury developed daguerreotype, Talbot’s photogenic drawing process with four different stabilizers and Bayard’s direct positive print. This is five days of guided image making and a unique opportunity to evaluate the technique, chemistry and image potential of these processes from the dawn of photography where Talbot did his own experiments. [2 spaces open as of 3/14]

Ambrotype, Tintype and Dry Collodion Negative July 2-6

An intensive five day workshop in the basics of wet plate positives [ambrotype and tintype] and the rare dry collodion negative process. Reintroduced by the Ostermans two years ago the dry collodion process allows coating glass plates weeks before shooting and development many days after exposure. No need for a darkroom in the field. [4 spaces open as of 3/14]

Ambrotype and Tintype July 9-12

A basic four day workshop for making ambrotypes and tintypes taught Mark Osterman and France Scully Osterman who taught the first public workshops of the current collodion revival. Includes shooting in and around Talbot’s Lacock Abbey using a portable darkroom. [6 spaces open as of 3/14]

All workshops include illustrated lectures on the history and chemistry of the process and readings that feature complete instructions and formulas. For information on content contact Mark Osterman at mosterman@geh.org
