I can buy a Toyo 57 G in near perfect condition, with the normal and wide-angle bellows, a 5x7 and 4x5 back, both with shades, and some 5x7 film holders and some small stuff, for 300 euro (about $ 400).

Good deal ? Should I do it ? I like 5x7 ...

Thanks,
Stefan.

um yes. I would hate you for it too. These don't really exist in the wild. I've been looking for a couple of years. If you want to sell the 5x7 parts, I'll buy them off you.

Very good deal, go for it! Sorry, Paul. :)

It's because I've never seen one (not in reality and not on a site somewhere; it's not even mentioned on the Toyo site !) that I asked: I have nothing to compare it too. I just called the seller and I bought it and I'll pick it up this following Sunday. I'll let you know how it is.

Here are some pictures:

IF I ever sell it, I'll present it here first.

Thanks for your advice.

Looks like a nice (great) find! Plus, it's great that you have a 4 X 5 reducing back for it.
5 X 7 film availability is becoming, (more and more), the 'lost orphan' of sheet film sizes.
Have fun!

Looks a great camera, especially for the price, I would've jumped on it too.

Let me know if you don't like the 5x7 it, please. I've been looking for one for a while. I'd just be interested in the 5x7 parts, so you'd still have a working camera. Of course I'd take the whole thing off your hands too.

Well, my 57G turned out to me even more then I expected: it's practically mint (sorry Paul, don't want to hurt you) and there's more in the deal then the guy mentioned: I got 6 (new in box) Fidelity 13x18 holders, 8 new Fidelity 4x5 holders (look unused), a nice collection of books (on photography of course) and a lot of stuff for 100 euro extra, like a Jobo CPA, several Jobo 4000-series tanks, chemicals, 13x18 plan film, an unopened 30-meter cannister of B&W 35mm film (Agfapan 100 profession, from 1981, so 30 YEARS OLD .. I wonder if it will still be good), retouching stuff, a Durst UT100 dryer, ....

For those interested (I already told Paul): there's a Toyo 57 G for sale here: http://www.ebay.de/itm/TOYO-57G-Grosformat-13x18cm-3-Objektiven-/190652548312?pt=DE_Foto_Camcorder_Analogkameras&hash=item2c63c704d8#ht_500wt_1202

First, it was 1600 euro and didn't sell, now it's 1300 euro. Because of the way eBay started calculating the evaluations, he's at only 94%, but that's only ONE bad evaluation in the last year (that will be disappeared in a few days). The guy might be open for negociations or sale the camera without lenses .... I'm not connected to the seller in any way (I realize this message might give another impression ).

Paul, I'm not sure I understand: if I would sell you the 5x7 parts, how can I still have a working camera ? The back frame and the bellows are 5x7 parts, I would be left with only the front without bellows ?

I thought you were sayong that the camera came with a 4x5 back, if its a 4x5 reducing back i guess you'll nee dthe 5x7 back to make it work. Still, i want it!

It has a 5x7 back frame, a "normal" front frame (I guess: it has the same size as my 810G), and two backs: a 5x7 back and a 4x5 back; you use one or the other, not one into the other; here are some more pictures to make it clearer:

Stefan,

How much does the 5x7 weigh? Is it close to the 810G?

Hello Thomas,

I did not weight it yet, because both cameras are now mounted on different tripods, but according to the general Toyo system brochure that came with it, the 57G weights 5.4kg and the 810G 7.4 kg.

And I thought my mintish Sinar Norma 5x7 with assorted extras (no lenses, though) for 275 euros the other day was a good buy... but this... I'd say the seller basically gave it away. Good steal! :D

I'm very happy with it, and now I have a second one, that I'll sell. Since I promised Paul to offer it to him first, I try to contact him, but his PM box is full. I hope he'll see this message.

Stefan.
