The latch on my Horseman FA spring back busted last night. I wanted to use the camera today, so I made a new one.

Here is the busted latch:

Since my plan was to have SK Grimes make a new one, I used aluminum to make a temporary one:

It works very well. For long term durability, I'd still like one made of steel, rather than aluminum.

SK Grimes has just returned my email indicating about $200 to manufacture a matching pair. I also have an email out the KHB for a new spare part from Horseman.

Since the original was kind of cheap stamped steel, I'm inclined to go with SK Grimes, as having two machined levers will be an improvement over the original.

In the mean time, the camera back works perfectly. So I have some time to look around.

Update?

What's odd is the FA/HD backs are just slightly different than the studio camera backs.

I did got a second GG back which I put on my extension bellows. But, after this repair, the original one works fine. No issues at all with the piece being made of aluminum, so I'm still using it.

As I recall, when I got the new GG back it came with a frame, that locks on the back standard, and accepts the locking arms from the GG back. It was just slightly off and would not fit the FA. So it must have been for the studio camera. But otherwise the actual GG back fit on the existing frame of my FA. So maybe the GG backs are the same, with just a different adapter piece.

So, to backtrack my research from a few years ago, I think the GG back (#23717) fits both studio and FA cameras, but the connector frame (#23707) is different.

See page #31 REAR FRAMES, of the Horseman System catalog on the cameraeccentric site for more details.

Thx

I'll check the fit again one day.
