Has anyone had any experience using a 4x5 extension back to 5x7 on an Ebony SV45? If so what are the pros and cons. Thanks Abel

Not on the Ebony, but I have used one on a Wista field camera for over ten years. Cons are that it is a lot more gear to carry with you if you are using both 4x5 and 5x7 backs in the same session. You also have to deal with two different aspect ratios.

On the plus side, it's a darn cheap way to get into another large format. Every lens I own for my 4x5 works with the 5x7 back. The Fuji 90 mm is basically a "point and shoot" because the bellows must be fully compressed. If you have an enlarger capable of handling the 5x7 negative, that's really super. I went to 5x7 because I wanted a larger negative for platinum printing, but didn't want to invest in an 8 x 10.

I also had a 5X7 back on my Wista. It was useful in convincing me that I really wanted to do 5X7's to print in Platinum. The biggest downside was that the bellows were too narrow for 5X7 and I would get bellows cutoff if I wasn't careful enough with camera movements.

Hi Abel, I think you'll find that the accessory you mention is designed for 5x7 cameras and allows them to "reduce" to 4x5, not the other way around ie 4x5 to "increase" to 5x7.

Hi Abel. Don't know the answer to your question. Just wanted to say HI and it was a privilege meeting you and working together on the workshop. Jim
