Problem with Sekonic 778

I bought a Sekonic 778 on ebay - the overall condition is really like new, but when I put a battery inside and switch on, only the battery check is shown, nothing else. It doesnt switch to lightmeter mode.
Based on manual, the battery check should be present only for second, not a minutes :(

Is it malfunction or is there any trick how to switch on?

You're right...battery check shows for a few seconds and then the rest of the LCD should show up.

Sounds like a bad meter. You might check battery polarity, but I don't think even the battery check would show if the battery was installed wrong.

Great meter when working correctly.
