Mad Magazine had (or maybe still has) an occasional section called "Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions." I just ran across this that made me think of it:

A photographer went to a socialite party in New York. As he entered the door, the host said, "I love your pictures -- they're wonderful; you must have a fantastic camera." He said nothing until dinner was finished, then, "That was a wonderful dinner; you must have a terrific stove."

The same as the Author who suggested the photographer had a wonderful camera. The photographer replied I love your books, you must have a wonderful typewriter.

And this variation, which I think works better when politeness is needed:

"Those pictures are fantastic. Your camera takes great pictures!"

"Thank you. Your mouth makes great compliments!"

Yup, that's where I saw it.

That post was pretty funny. You must have a good computer.
