One of my clients has just dropped an interesting assignment in my lap to create wall art for an architectural restoration project from historical images of that building (1923 school) that will most likely either be newspaper half tone prints found on microfilm, or from the original images in newspapers.

Hopefully, some may be found as actual prints or negative in the local newspaper's files, but we expect the majority to be copies as described.

The obvious issues of copyrights will be addressed, but my issues are with retouching.

Does anyone out there know of retouching software that is specifically designed to return half tone images in the direction of continuous tone final prints?

All suggestions are welcome.

Thanks.
